I presume that the colour scheme[^] has changed for everyone? Why? There's no mention of it on his blog and I find it so painful that I've stopped reading it temporarily.

It was an April Fool's joke. Refresh or clear your cache and it'll look normal again.

Please don't bother me... I'm hacking right now. Don't look at me like that - doesn't anybody remember what "hacking" really means? :sigh:

That might be because April 1st appears before April 1st for some

There is someone out there who did all the work for the Vista and failed miserably (apparently, and it did look pretty bad, it doesn't work well). The high-contrast themes are very popular out there with people who need at least a bit of accessibility or simply require it to see. Even for guys with good eyes white background can be quite intense after a prolonged period of time. Tried applying it on CP and it never worked well, no matter what the accessibility stylesheet was. VS though looks awesome in dark room, night scheme settings, full or custom-screen mode. Default control panel high-contrast desktop + vssettings out there does the job (give it a shot on your laptop or not to wake up your dearest with all the pixel glare:-) (mass sacrilege to see VB.Atwood write about CoreWar)

I agree that darker colour schemes are usually nicer however there was too sharp a contrast on that site. Will have to mess around with the settings for VS at some point...

I believe Tomas Restrepo had a quite set on his website of different settings and themes; not saying it was complete but it is certainly a great start. Also, it is quite easy to back them up and alternate (I find that the easiest way to work, switch settings and color schemes depending on type of app, editing, or just whether the eyes got tired of constant contrast, time of day etc). Must be me again, but just try and give it a go (if you are under XP) to few of those contrast schemes under display control applet, along with one of those vssettings, and of course adjust to personal taste. It is just awesome for dark room, night time work especially :-) Btw, not many people I know of like those neon or even natural emulating lights either, they just ruin the atmosphere.
