[Poll] JavaProject [modified]
-
Now that we have a Java section[^] I just thought I'd conduct a rough poll on how many will be using it. Vote: 1 - if you use the other programming sections heavily, but couldn't care less about the Java section 5 - if you use the other programming sections sparingly, but will be using the Java section heavily 2-4 suitably. Despite what a very vocal section here may think ;P I personally feel it's a very good idea to have a Java section, although I don't use much of Java these days. And you can call me Prophet Vikram[^] from now on. [EDIT]I have a feeling this post will end up with a score very close to 1  [/EDIT]
Cheers, Vikram.

I used to do a tonne of Java at uni, the whole course was heavily Java-focused, be it mobile apps (J2ME), jsp pages or windows apps. I don't touch it these days, but I may use my wealth:~ of Java knowledge to help those in need. My vote: 2, I don't care that much :)

As it is our countrymen are posting enough of VB .NET questions on the lounge. You say CP has a Java section and they'll turn the lounge to a Java.swing.anal.controls forum. Not to mention the new JAVA "articles" which they may write... Personally I think Java won't suit CP. I am completely biased towards using MS technologies. But then everyone has a biased opinion. :)

I'm not going to be using the Java section, so I voted 1, but I think it's good to have it. It will encourage other non-.net developers here, grow the site, etc. I'm not sure I think the Java Lounge should be seperate, but Chris says[^] it may be merged once things get up and running.

Irony of ironies... My one and only (to date) certification is from Sun as a J2SE programmer, yet I work almost exclusively in .NET 2.0 on production projects and new .NET (and Silverlight) for proof of concept projects. I started in Java when I was working on projects in Lotus Notes as there were things I needed to do that LotusScript (basically an extension of VBScript) wasn't up to. I will admit that my time as a Java developer instilled a better knowledge of OO concepts that my prior years in VB/VBScript/LotusScript did NOT provide. Now, I am pretty much a hardcore C# guy, but Java made the transition to C# VERY easy. I always hated C++ back in my college days/mid-80s. C and C++ always made things harder than they needed to be. There are some things I miss about Java, though. Like adding or not adding listeners as you see fit... Draugnar

3. I'd like to see a subsection of the new Java section for Flash Actionscript, which is basically Java.
