Steve “The Crocodile Hunter” was telling in the Discovery Channel that some Aussie cities are full of snakes. I also saw the Steve guy catching a big snake from a home bathroom. Now, How are you guys handling this? Any “Snake Charming” strategy you Aussies have? Any close and personal encounters with snakes? --------------- Dan Ammasai ---------------

Some advice: don't believe everything you see on TV - especially the Discovery Channel. I was in the States last year where they showed a doco on the "plague" of Funnelweb spiders in Sydney. They made it appear that they were everywhere - in beds, hiding in towels on towel rails, sleeping in your fuzzy slippers, sitting on your couch channel surfing and hogging the remote... cheers, Chris Maunder

I had a place in Brizzy for a while and had never seen a snake, until oneday a guy came around to clear them out of the roof space. It was a writhing mess of them. IMHO: Steve is your typical average Aussie, and most aussies can handle snakes and crocs just like he does. If they can't they are obviously whinging Poms or Wogs. Regardz Colin J Davies

You can't say WOGS ! Really it depends on how you say it, If you say it in a normal derrogatory way, then its ok, but if you are patronizeing and condescending it isn't cool. I know WOGS who are proud to be Aussie WOGS And I remember a show of WOGS on TV called " WOGS on TV " for a while. ( Not very original name eh! ) Regardz Colin J Davies

nope we can't - a popular brand marmalade was affected by this - see golly to be shelved by the way the chracter used to be Golliwog and then was shortened to Golly to be more PC - it failed

I read somewhere that in Australia if you find a snake in your house you are not supposed to harm it.You are to inform authorities and they will come and take it away. This is quite different from what we do here in india. Here if someone finds a snake,it will be beaten to a pulp.I think the fear of snakes leads them to do this.

Yep, Snakes are a protected species. The same applies to white pointer sharks. Besides, the easiest way to get bitten by a snake is to attack it.
