Yeh i know, but you got to take risk at some point in life. Otherwise, you will end up working under some one whole your life. But i know not everyone thinks this way. I am from a business family background and i have always thought like that, so may be that's the reason i know what i want to do. And if i fail, i have other businesses going on. Yeh my dad's but still i am not gonna die of hunger for sure. :) And if you are a good developer like yourself, you must have earned hell lot of money by now. You can easily start your own company in some part of world like singapore or malaysia or may be where you are currently situated. But if everyone will start business then who gonna work for them..lol So yeh if it's not your cup of tea then do not go for it. As business means risk, if it's a success then you are the star and if not you can always blame your destiny..lol

I was looking at Devonport as I have family there, but I have applied for some jobs down in Hobart. so pretty much anywhere but Straun Everyone I have told that I want to move to tassie, they all have the same reaction.. "Why on earth would you want to move there?"... so I have stopped saying it lol

Plus developing isnt my specialty, its more of a hobby... hence why you wont see me giving programming help... I am normally on the receiving end.

I completely agree... But I do already have my own company (well half anyway.. still under development lol) and I would post a link to my site, however its advertising and its still not entirely ready for the public eye lol But even if my company was ready, I would not be able to live off its income strait away.. it takes time to get a decent income from a business

I love selling myself, doing the dog and pony show. Basically I love being on stage no matter where it is and have a natural talent for it. What stops me going freelance are two things. (a) Health Insurance and (b) not wanting to spend the little free time I have dealing with annoying paper work. (b) is so easy to overlook that until you consider what the HR guys and gals are doing for you.
I'm largely language agnostic
After a while they all bug me :doh:

What better way to start the day then to be called into your bosses office and be told that your job isnt as secure as you thought, and that yours is the only position in the company they are considering cutting :-( Good thing I have been applying at a few places in Tasmania (yes I am one of the few who want to willingly move there). Thanks to all those who gave me Resume advice last week :-)

Better to know than to have a buyout and a copy of a newspaper with the words, "No layoffs planned" only to find out they lied. Oh, and then fire you and keep the idiot who deleted an entire database when you took a day off.

yes, but I am famous there... I had an incident while bushwalking and had to call an ambo. As all the emergancy ppl there are vollenteres, half the town turned up (16 emergancy ppl icluding SES, Police, Ambo, and even the parks people... along with a heap of on lookers wondering what all the excitment was about)... the next few days were "hey wernt you the guy that hurt yourself the other day?"... the only good that came from it was the free drinks i got everywhere lol but it ruined my holidays as I was the only one who could drive manual, and it was at the start of my holidays

Agreed--finding out you are losing your job SUCKS no matter how you find out. Are you in a small town or at least close to a large town with some possibilities?
The town has about 37000 people, but there is very little in the way of developing/IT/anything I am good at The town im at is on the edge of civilisation, so it is mostly farming and the trades that acompany it The next large town (with any chance of work) is Sydney... I'm more of a country boy being rasied out here, and even the thought of living/working in Sydney makes me stressed

I believe that if you know how to 'program' it does not matter the language. One of my courses in college was learning how to do the same program in 4 different languages including OOP and non-OOP. It's just learning the syntax of that language and how to optimize it.
