Thanks! I've been through clinical depression before so I knew the warning signs. Doing pretty well now. Still second guessing myself on some things but feeling the best I've felt in a LONG time. It's funny..I was on a conference call today with people I never talked to and I realized one participant on the phone was Aussie. I asked the girl next to me, "Is he from NSW or Vic?" She asked him over the spider phone and he said NSW. He was shocked some chick from the midwest could identify his accent. I plan to update my blog this weekend--so much politics and comic reviews!

I'm impressed, when I first landed here people always asked if I was English or Australian. After the second time of removing obscure items from their nether regions they usually stopped. Now people ask if I from MN .. I guess a mix of English and midwest sounds Minnesotan, ya.

WHAT? English, Ausssie or Kiwi sounds nothing like northern MN! One guy my husband used to work with is from England (Manchester) and my hubby kept telling me he was from Australia, so I wanted to know from what part. He never asked. As soon as I met him I knew he was English and NOT Aussie. If you're from northern MN you use a lot of 'eh' and end sentences with 'there.' Southern MN is like eastern SD and we draw out our O's. It's South Dakooota and Minnesooooota.

When in Australia I said I was from South Dakota. For some odd reason several people asked, "that's in Texas, right?"

even though Australia is pretty big, a lot of people dont appreciate the size/geography of the USA .. I do because the last trip I did (there) was LA -> Chicago -> Boston -> San Francisco -> LA ... (and I have a heap of friends who regularly commute in-between) even then, I can get a bit 'lazy' ..and use 'over there' for example to denote 'anywhere in the continental USA' 'g'

Unfortunately after moving here I don't have a good support network. I never found people I could really hang with. My "other mother" (mom of my ex Aussie boyfriend) recently got married and moved to Portsmouth, Vic. I wanted to go to the wedding but with the US dollar so low it was too expensive. I can't wait to go back!

I know, and even my garbled accent of the last few years sounds nothing like. Recently I've been trying to eradicate the midwest aspect that crept in.

Don't feel bad. I'm from Minnesota, and occasionally get asked if i'm from the UK. And no, i don't talk with anything even resembling any UK accent i've ever heard... i suspect the local (Colorado) dialects are just so garbled that anyone who enunciates gets labeled "non-Native". :~

My hubbie (Kori) could not make the flight. After 3 hours he goes into internet withdrawl--saw it on the flight to Puerto Rico which is a connection flight compared to a flight to AUS. I haven't been to Canberra either but politics never seemed to be like what they are in the US. In the end run, I don't fit in because I hate Vegemite...but I LOOOOOVE Tim-Tams!(Yes, I can do the slam!)

We can get the regular ones but they are called "Arnott's." I have to special order other flavors. In 2000 a company I worked for did all the scoreboards for the Olympics (Daktronics) and my neighbor got to go over to work some of the boards. I still had some Aus currency to give him to bring back TimTams. I kid you not--he bought an extra suitcase to bring back TimTams on one trip home! Now to get chicken flavored crisps...that I still have to do online. I did find Milo recently at the same World Market store that has the TimTams. Now if I could find YoGo and M milk......and wombats...

Have a closer look Leckey, Arnotts is the name of the company that make Tim Tams, along with a million other types of biscuits.

I started loving 'toos after spending time in Australia. My umbie has left a couple of scars from mating season after we rescued her, but if you know how to train them, they can be so fun. My Mol is HUGE and intimidates people at first and then they realize he just wants to be help and petted. For some reason hyacinth macaws love me; I've met four and ALL of them have vomited for me. Very strange...
