Web-based Virus Scan

I was just wondering if there were any websites that support anyone uploading a file and the website should scan and certify it as Virus-free or is infected. I know that Trend Housecall exists but this needs a costly download and updation of pattern engines. Typically while you are on a move and check an email from a cybercafe, you would not have rights to install ActiveX besides we need not spend our bucks to install software for the cybercafe. I admit that Windows Live/Yahoo do a quick scan but most of them are Symantec. Viruses are let go scott-free and the recipient systems entrap the message and bounce back as 'Infected'. Any views/opinions on this?

Used a real antivirus, like the open-source ClamWin? Personally I use Norton, but it's up to you to choose which one you want. My other computer has AVG free. (although it is no longer free :mad:) Maybe I'll try VirusTotal though, like some of the others said.

Thanks for the pointer. But the original query was Web-based scanners whilst your suggests were desktop engines.

It leaves a lot of remnants behind, making the system as a haunted ghost for the Norton spirit to linger around. The only way is to demolish the building ("reformat") and construct it afresh.

Once I left the company I was with recently, I was so frustrated when trying to uninstall it I almost went ahead and formatted the computer. It really is a pain.

Norton AntiVirus is OK, but Norton Internet Security and 360 is pigeon crap mixed with cat pee.

It has Ads! Isn't this ironic, because it removes malware but it has malware behavour. WTF? Good thing I'm sticking with Free 7.5 and Norton.
