I used to think ethanol was a good thing. The only thing I like about it now is that it is cheaper than regular gas. We have lots of plants for processing going up, but I've now seen the effects of using all the corn for gas. The farmers will get paid regardless; it's just they are getting paid more now because of the subsidies.

About the only good thing I can find about it is that it doesn't come from the middle east. I wish we had a source-neutral system of subsidies that simply rewarded companies for producing more (relatively clean) energy inside the US. Wind? Great! Oil Shale? Great! Nuclear? Great! (except in my back yard, of course ;)

Wind energy is becoming more popular here; South Dakota is one of the most windy states. I'm on the list for getting a Chevy Volt when it becomes available; all electric and can go up to 40 miles without a charge. The more people who sign up, the quicker it will go to production.

Who keeps moving this crap to the SoapBox? This stuff isn't offensive or controversial, it's just plain dumb. Stop dumping the lounge trash here.

Adam should really ease up and let the forums self-moderate for the most part
Usually true, but in this case there was a strong demand that all of Dan's "julia4u" posts be moved so that the lounge-livers could properly express their feeling about his number of known parents, probably destination upon demis,e and the closeness of his relationship with his mother. Adam seems to have compromised by moving one post but not both. Nothing like consistency of rules enforcement to make everyone feel like they know what's going on, eh?

Adam hasn't moved anything. I've been going through trying to keep up with some of the drivel that has been posted but have obviously missed some. There's an Abuse button that I encourage everyone to use if a post is inappropriate.

I would have been in favor of him moving everything, especially his own anti-catholic post. I did find the administration inconsistent since some julie4u threads were moved and others left untouched. Whoever did move the posts here to SB acted properly in my opinion. I did object to the idea that he could post something entitled "pope == pimp" in the Lounge because he was staff, and I object quite a bit to being threatened physically by him.

Again, it was I who moved the post. Adam is under the same posting guidelines everyone else is and is not entitled to post anything inflamatory in the lounge. I cannot speak for Adam, but I have spoken with Adam and can assure you he meant absolutely no offense in his posts, is not anti-catholic (he himself is Catholic) and that it was he who felt threatened. This is a site for Software developers. Can we all take a few breaths of reality and put everything in perspective?

I think everyone is getting way too hectic about it. He was joking, not physically threatening you. I bet if I'd said that exact same thing you wouldn't have felt threatened or even given a damn.
Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing.

I don't think I've ever seen less emotion in a message.

Why not have a kind of /dev/null? Something different than the "Message automatically deleted" thing? If it's automatically deleted, why not remove the entire thread rather than having a dumping ground, so to speak? I think that would eliminate alot of forum noise and then some of these ridiculous threads involving drug use and the other questionable content would be put where they belong...
