Mine was assigned to me via my constructor. Since I was designed to be immutable I have no

When I joined CP, I noticed that a lot of Chris' were already here. So I made one up. :)

That's why I used Christopher. I once asked my mother why she named me that, since people frequently call me Chris. She told me it was just in case I needed to be important someday. I'll let you know how that works out if I ever get there. :)

in a thread below someone mentioned not remember their old handle. i see tons of crazy handles on here. where did you get your CP handle? i have no idea where i got jgasm from. my first name is jimmie so gasm just seemed fun. it's been my handle for years. :laugh:

Hmmm. Let me see. Pete O'Hanlon. Nope, no idea how I came up with that wacky assemblage of characters. I actually wanted to be called symbol, but some dodgy little bloke beat me to that one. Originally, I was called Big Pete on CP. There are still a couple of article posts with comments from Big Pete knocking about here somewhere. For a while, I stopped going by my name on forums because there was a weird person from Developerfusion stalking me and I didn't want them to know I was here.

My mother tells the story of how she was holding and feeding me the day after I was born and I still hadn't been named. She decided that I should be either a Phillip or a Christopher. When my dad came in for a visit and he heard the name Phillip, he exclamed, "Oh like, 'Come fill up my cup, Come fill up my can'"(apologies to Mother Goose fans). My mother quickly decided that Christopher it was to be. As far as being famous, ditto, I'll let you know what it's like when I get there. :)

I got mine when Turbo Pascal was still distributed on a single 5-1/4 inch floppy shrink-wrapped inside it's single paperback manual. I asked someone on an old-style BBS if they had thought patching the actual Turbo Pascal IDE so it would display certain kinds of text in different colors, and they said "it was impossible" and "I shouldn't do it". So I did it. I wrote an app that allowed you to set certain colors in the Turbo Pascal IDE, and I wrote it with Turbo Pascal. After I posted the code, someone called me an "outlaw programmer", and it kinda stuck with me. CodeProject in 2000 is when I started using it in public, though.

Knowing that you're from Texas, I'd considered that it might have been a reference to Willie, Waylon and the boys. Of course, if you were programming in Pascal (went to college, did you?), you're clearly an outlaw to begin with. I waited until Turbo C was available on 5 1/4" floppies. Always wondered where that came from. Knowing that you're from Texas, I'd considered that it might have been a reference to Willie, Waylon and the boys. Of course, if you were programming in Pascal (went to college, did you?), you're clearly an outlaw to begin with. I waited until Turbo C was available on 5 1/4" floppies. A much more reputable environment. But then, I'm no outlaw. :-D
