That's why I used Christopher. I once asked my mother why she named me that, since people frequently call me Chris. She told me it was just in case I needed to be important someday. I'll let you know how that works out if I ever get there. :)

That reminds me of when I bought my first house, it was a new build. The foreman for the street was called "Charles" or at least that's what I was told, so the first time I went to find him I asked where I could find "Charles" to various bricklayers, plumbers, electricials etc that were working on the houses. Turns out he hates that. He preferes "Charlie" and doesn't like people using his "Sunday name".

Thought they only used that phrase in the southern US. :)

I went to college (1980-82), but all they were interested in teaching me was mainframe stuff. I figured out two things at roughly the same time - a) all programming languages are pretty much the same, and b) PC's were where the real programming money was going to be. I quite school because they didn't have a PC programming course, and I taught myself Pascal. After that, I taught myself C/C++, and now C# (actually, .Net Framework since C# is so much like C++). And yeah, I like Waylon's music (and I met Johnny Cash on several occasions - my dad and him were friends).

Yeah, those phrases are almost always to be found near any paragraph containing "Borland Turbo Pascal / C." :-D I miss Phillipe Khan. The only guy with a whip and a chair big enough to keep the MS dev tools honest...

Probably from my father, who btw was not a computer programmer.

Mine was assigned to me via my constructor. Since I was designed to be immutable I have no Name setter property, only a getter.

Actually, it's possible to override this behavior. But as the documentation[^] states, it's not an easy process. /ravi

I was doing a project at uni for the psychology department - it was supposed to be a fairly simple database app but they wanted some monster enterprise application. Someone commented that they wanted the moon on a stick. We called our project team Moonstick and I kept it ever since!

                          It definitely isn't definatley

I got mine when Turbo Pascal was still distributed on a single 5-1/4 inch floppy shrink-wrapped inside it's single paperback manual. I asked someone on an old-style BBS if they had thought patching the actual Turbo Pascal IDE so it would display certain kinds of text in different colors, and they said "it was impossible" and "I shouldn't do it". So I did it. I wrote an app that allowed you to set certain colors in the Turbo Pascal IDE, and I wrote it with Turbo Pascal. After I posted the code, someone called me an "outlaw programmer", and it kinda stuck with me. CodeProject in 2000 is when I started using it in public, though.
