Well LinkedIn is more of a professional network. It offers the possibility to keep in contact with people you know / trust / recommend in business. You can build a profile much like a CV and people can offer for example recommendations for you. It can be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities.

Yes. The behavior is that any new member must be approved first, and there's no option to change this. However new members can be approved by group managers so anyone wanting to do this please let me know and I'll add you. Of course because I created the group I've already taken the responsibility to do this.

Why? Honestly, why? I've had a LinkedIn account for years. I am reminded of said account when someone asks to link with me. Marc

I guess it really depends on your intentions. Linking in together with more professionals / clients / etc and for example getting recommendations from clients might make you more visible in the industry and provide more options for landing contracts / job opportunities etc. Just like word of mouth, contributions to development communities, etc opportunities can come from here as well. It's just a matter of deciding whether it is worth it or suits your needs.

Nope you'll have 4.99 million Indians in your group all wanting recommendations based on their articles submitted to CP. Like Marc I have been there for some time but I am reluctant to put too much detail on the web.

You can also have recommendations from valuable professionals whose opinions have a weight. I'm not trying to convince anyone of using it. I'm just saying. And of course like every other thing designed for a purpose it is usually abused in a way or another. It's just a way to promote yourself which you decide if it's worth it or not.

Welll I just looked at the Privacy notice, and I don't like what I see. It seems that you can "invite" other people to join. Once you enter an email address in that section, instant spam. For everyone who joins this site please do NOT invite me to join through their system. I have no interest, and I certainly don't want the resulting email crap I'd be getting. Thanks in advance.
