Making Friends

So call be biased or whatever but its a fact, If someone posts a Qu at CP and I don't persoanlly know them as a Cyber identity, I'm quite likely to give them a one line answer if I know it. But if someone I have an association in the Lounge or Sonork asks a question who I'm well aquainted with, I'm quite preapared to frop tools and try to solve it out right, even ig it takes a good deal of time. By the way, Colin, I'm having a little trouble with this "Hello World" think in VB, could you assist? (where's that damned icon for ducking?) It depends. I'll always try to help someone I know, but I'll go through lengths to help someone I don't know if I have the time and if they seem like they legitimately want to learn instead of a typical "h0W 2 k1lL CTRL+ALT+DEL 4 mY pR0g" and aren't being plain lazy. It wasn't pretty. I decided to learn C to escape line numbers. Sometimes the best thing you can give person is the "KeyWord" so they can explore for themselves. Then they know what to search for at MS MSDN or CP for example. What I mean is with "friends", I'm more likely to find or create a code example as such for them. Regardz Colin J Davies

Yes, I detect sarcasm. Possibly I didn't emplain myself well enough. Also consider this Christopher, I occasionally get paid to do R&D stuff. ( in and out of IT) The only two reasons really that I get results is because I have spent both money and time studying myriads of tomes and have friends who help me, who I in turn help. If I was working in as a normal employee I'd possibly lend my skills more eagerly to all in sundry. For instance yesterday I gave a young chap a truly "Revolutionary" parsing technique with no strings attached. So I do help some folk, but I must also consider that I have a family to feed, and if I just give stuff a way I'll never get paid. Quite often I get requests for "How do I do 'such and such' ?" And I have sent a contract as a reply rather than the answer. If I didn't do that I probably would never get any work coming in. Regardz Colin J Davies
