Goodness that a loud machine. I'd have to shove it in the ventilated cabinet with the other PCs.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. - -Lazarus Long

That was my first observation as well (I mean, beyond the fact that I think that guy caressed that cable WAY too long).

I'm glad to hear someone else noticed that as well. I thought seemed just a tad bizarre.

I wonder how long these guys will last before Apple legal sets it's Hounds of Hell on them? The Apple OS X EULA is pretty clear about not letting you run it on non Apple hardware.

Anyonde else remember the Orange computer? Jobs rounded up a posse and hung the entire staff from trees outside their warehouse - and left 'em there till they rotted.

I found this and this and this Obviously not much left of its history, but when it first came out there was great excitement.

Isn't apple OS X based on BSD/Unix ?? Is it then at least in part covered by GPL ?? If thats the case, they can't legally close the source / tie it to any particular hardware ...

Nope, strangely enough, BSD uses the BSD license[^]... Also, Apple have made the source for the underlying OS available in the past (see OpenDarwin[^]). However - the point is, how much of OS X is the underlying Unix and how much is the GUI software written by Apple, which certainly isn't covered by any open source license? Yep, the OS X differentiators are the Apple written code.

Only the kernel and some of the basic BSD command line tools (like ls, cd, cp, etc). The rest is their code, i.e. all the UI stuff, l10n and i18n code is based on top of IBM's ICU, the driver framework is theirs, etc.

No, it's BSD licensed (thank God!).

Yeah. I was thinking about how people in the house would react if I fired it up for some late-night programming. Results didn't seem promising. Anyway, I thought the thing sounded like my garbage disposal unit or a blender. Horrific.. :~
