Absolutely - it's a cover version, and as such an excellent one. It catches what made the original songgreat AND adds a unique voice to it. Johnny Cash isn't much "my" music, but the Album it's from - American IV: The Man Comes Around - has three excellent cover versions: Hurt from NIN (the one he'll probably be rememberd for by <= my age), Bridge over troubled water, and Personal Jesus. Clickety-Click[^]

Have you heard Johnny Cash's cover of U2's "One?"

The first time I heard Hurt, it snuck up on me listening in the car. I suddenly realized that it was Johnny Cash singing a NIN song. Who would've thought (NIN and Depeche Mode) being redone by him. Brilliant.

Iron Maiden - Powerslave. That is hard-core heavy metal.

Thanks for that link. Never heard Hurt or Personal Jesus before (far too old). A real treat to listen to Cash & the original versions. Thanks again.

That is one of those few songs that I like the second version better. I also prefer Cash's version of Hurt.

It's sundown: tree frogs, some kind of bird and lots and lots and lots of toads / frogs in the pond and swampy area out back. It's kind of nice to listen to, particularly on a rainy night with the bedroom windows open, all you hear are zillions of frogs ribbiting all night.

The first time I ever heard Depeche Mode Personal Jesus was as a young lad fresh out of high school, on my own and at a strip bar in Ottawa Ontario, it made quite an impression and I can still visualize it all to this day. ;)
