News flash! Water degrades spontaneously into hydrogen and oxygen!! See here[^]!! Check it out: Tim Craig wrote: 73Zeppelin: Similarly, there was no ozone layer at one point MrPlankton: How do you know that? Tim Craig: Because at one point before green plants, there was no oxygen in the atmosphere. No oxygen, no ozone. Idiot: You do understand, do you not, that common water is made (in part) of oxygen? And that it really doesn't take much for water to "degrade" into oxygen and hydrogen? So, apparently atmospheric ozone can be generated at ground level via spontaneous breaking of the water molecule (and perceivably remain stable until it makes its way into the upper atmosphere)! What a discovery! What genius that lies behind this new mechanism of atmospheric ozone production! Nobel prize, nobel prize! Here's a clue idiot: Water contains: 2 HYDROGEN atoms and 1 OXYGEN atom Atmospheric oxygen is O2 - TWO OXYGEN atoms. Even if (stable) water were somehow miraculously able to break down spontaneously you'd still have only a free oxygen atom. So, where does the marvellous O2 come from that you propose? I'll tell you, it comes from this reaction called photolysis: 2H2O + 2NADP+ + 8 photons (light) 2NADPH + 2H+ + O2 But since you're such an idiot, I'm interested in your crackpot theory. How, exactly, does this miraculous theory of yours fit into the ozone cycle: O2 + photon(radiation< 240 nm) -> 2 O O + O2 -> O3 It is destroyed by the reaction with atomic oxygen: O3 + O -> 2 O2 ?? Do tell. Furthermore, maybe you'd like to explain your idea of how water spontaneously dissociates by being exposed to photons and results in the production of gaseous O2. I have a glass of water and a halogen lamp that emits UV here to test your theory. Waiting....

Though, of course, one expects true idiots, such as 73DipStick and his Amen Chorus, to refuse to think and understand:

Hydrogen peroxide tips[^] Hydrogen Peroxide on the other hand, is simply water with an extra oxygen molecule (H2O2) and breaks down into oxygen and water. It's certainly kinder on the environment. H2O2 is produced by both animal and plant cells and is formed naturally in the environment by sunlight acting on water.

Water is O-H-O [edit: OOPS, obviously I meant: H-O-H] Hydrogen peroxide is H-O-O-H [edit:] When H-O-O-H "degrades" into H-O-H and O (obviously, intermediate steps happen), does that not leave a "free" atmospheric O atom? And, since atmospheric O atoms are "unstable," will not two of them "join" to from a "stable" atmospheric O-O "atom?" Did you know (and do you care, even now) that the cells of your own body generate small amounts of hydrogen peroxide? Your [edit: The] assertion[^] was that atmospheric oxygen (i.e. the O-O molecule) is *solely* the result of green plants. This assertion is not true; that was my entire point and claim.

So, yeah. Apparently when you say "water", you actually mean "hydrogen peroxide". I see. You're a lying moron now. Anyways, your frantic google search for hydrogen peroxide still hasn't answered my question about how you believe this can create atmospheric oxygen in detectable quantities let alone miraculously produce upper atmosphere ozone. We're still waiting for you to stop lying and dodging and to finally admit you really are clueless. I can't believe you keep posting on this board after the number of times you've been humiliated. You're like Pavlov's dog, only dumber.

As I said previously, my point and claim is only that your assertion that atmospheric O-O is solely the result of photosynthesis is false. To be blunt, I think you enjoy completely humiliating yourself.

 That's not under dispute, dipshit. Your fantasy that (well, first it was just plain water that could "degrade", now you've changed course lied and suggested hydrogen peroxide) hydrogen peroxide contributes to atmospheric oxygen and ozone before (or even after for that matter) the existence of plants has been demonstrated to be completely unfounded. Remember the basis of the original discussion, deceiver? I'll remind you: We were discussing the fact that upper atmospheric ozone couldn't exist without plants. You're claiming it could because water (now it's hydrogen peroxide) "degrading" had something to do with the presence of an ozone layer. Presumably you meant that since ozone requires oxygen as a precursor, oxygen is being produced by sunlight interacting with concentrations (on the order of nano moles) of hydrogen peroxide in naturally occurring water and somehow this ends up as atmospheric ozone or some other complete bullshit you've dreamed up in the last 2 hours. I've shown that to be completely false based on chemistry and the oxygen cycle. Have you figured out that you're completely wrong yet or do you need futher humiliation?

Just because I enjoy seeing you completely humiliated, would you mind explaining why your important hydrogen peroxide contribution isn't considered part of the oxygen cycle[^]? How can you explain this? Has it simply been overlooked? Perhaps you're a monumental idiot?

As I said previously, my point and claim is only that your assertion that atmospheric O-O is solely the result of photosynthesis is false. To be blunt, I think you enjoy completely humiliating yourself.

 You're so fucking clueless, my sides are splitting! I'm claiming atmospheric oxygen arises from the oxygen cycle, which I've linked to multiple times now and in that article, I specifically referenced the sources of atmospheric oxygen of which there are several. Notably, not one of those sources includes your delusional idea of water and/or hydrogen peroxide being a contributer. So your lie I quoted above is exposed again. Now you're a liar multiple times today. Keep it up! My claim (which is true) is that you're an idiot of monolithic proportions who is so petty that you are resorting to blatant lies to extricate yourself from the abyss of humiliation in which you now reside. Everyone is still waiting for you to explain why you think your original point regarding water (now hydrogen peroxide) is valid when it is not? Your refusal to address it just reinforces how stupid you truly are.

See, now you only say that because your sense of humor just isn't as well-developed as mine is. I am witty. You are half-witty.
