In Jan 2001. I joined in late 2000, and I am member 6556. Memberships were a lot slower coming back then.

Wow, my first account must go right back to the first 5000 or so then, I can't remmeber exactly when I fist signed up but it must have been mid 2000 or before. Just a pity I didn't get more involved at the time and only recently signed up again after more than 7 years.

Just out of curiosity, I would like to get to the very first post at the Lounge. Is it possible?

No. The closest you can get to the first message posted in The Lounge is observing the prehistoric cave paintings in Arizona.

interesting definition of 'first'. I'd think the "Chris who ripped who off?" post from a half hour prior was actually the first post.

You know the first post was: "F1RST POST!!1!!!!11" Actually the first post was (and I'll reprint to save server load): "Welcome to the Lounge 2000-08-16 12:39PM As an experiment I've created a place where we can chat about whatever we feel like - developer related or not - and the main thread headings will be pulled onto the homepage. Would be cool to see what everyone is thinking about"
