I want a document scanning software that can easily scan multiple page documents into a PDF file. The text in the scanned document must be OCRed so that cut/paste/search can be done. Is anyone here using such a software? I am looking for user experiences. I want this for personal use, and am not looking at very extensive document management software that cost a lot.

I used Finereader[^] years and years ago and found it very useful. Don't know what it's like now though. Back then, it could scan and OCR documents and you could scan several pages, and it would append each one as you went along. What I found most useful about it though was that you could manually define the OCR regions of the page and their order. So it was handy for newspaper scans or multi column layouts. All other OCR software I tried screwed up multi column layouts by just reading along the full line in one go.

Another vote here for FineReader. I've used it semi-regularly since version 5 (what is that, four or five years maybe?) and it's always done a good job for me.
