There is a "world championship" on "hockey"? :omg:
Of course there is and has been for decades. The international ice hockey federation has been around for 100 years and has over 65 member countries. If you want a real WTF moment ask yourself why the NFL in the U.S. always refers to themselves as the word champions or why the baseball playoffs are called the "world series". At least with ice hockey it's more than one or two countries.

So its about the same as the rugby league world cup?
Only if Canada provide the majority of the players for the other nations teams that don't actually play Ice Hockey, like Australia do for the League World Cup.

I guess the 64 other countries in the international ice hockey federation would be surprised to learn they don't have any local players in the 100 year history of the organisation. :)

Interesting game indeed - the winning goal was scored from outside the net. The video review judge was released from duty. The officiating for the international games is atrocious.

It used to be incredibly exciting to watch in my youth.

Not what I said John. Josh was comparing the Ice Hockey World Championship to the Rugby League World Cup. Rugby League is played in a handful of countries unlike Rugby Union. Australia is by far the powerhouse of World Rugby League with most of the other countries having most of their potential League players instead playing Union (New Zealand, South Africa, England and a few other lower ranked countries). The Rugby League big wigs seem to think League is bigger than it is and is worthy of a World Cup. Problem is (as mentioned earlier) bugger all countries play it. Not to let this minor thing get in the road they put these countries in the World Cup and then populate them with Australians who have ancestors from said country aor maybe just a name that sounds like it originated in that country. So all of that was to explain what I said to Josh, which was, Unless Canada provide most of the players for the other countries then then the Ice Hockeyt World Championship is not like the Rugby League World Cup at all.

Sorry, but you forgotten Argentina, and I think it's not a "lower ranked country", it's third ahead Australia. ;P http://www.irb.com/[^] Since we began to professionalize our rugby, we have improved more and more. This third position is not casual. :-\ However, Australia is the greatest. The best rugby is played there, I have to admit it. And, if Argentina and Australia play 10 matchs, Australia will win at least 6 of them. That's is totally true.

Demian, did you take note (as in read carefully) where I am talking aboutt Rugby League and not Rugbyy Union? Argentina's Rugby League team would be lucky to sniff the farts of the Australian Rugby League team. It's small insignificant game on the world stage, but we rule that tiny roost with an iron fist.
