This morning I recieved an exciting job offer from an american company! I wonder how they found my profile? Anyway due to my sickness / allergy to pollution I can't take on the opportunity :sigh: (it's either in Boston or LA!!) (In fact I'm strill trying to find a place I could live well and do some programming job at the same time.. sigh... :sigh: ) Anyway, as I was perusing through the offer I came to read that: "3 weeks vacation and 10 paid holidays" I wonder what that means '10 paid holliday' is 10 extra days on top of the 3 weeks? or are the vacation week unpaid and you have only 10 day paid? I mean can you explain what that means, I'm curious....

That means you get 3 weeks (15 days, weekend don't count) and additional 10 holidays ALL paid. The typical holidays are New Year Memorial Day (last Monday of May) Independence Day (4th of July) Labor Day (First Monday of Sep) Thanks Giving Day (Third Thursday of Nov) ( most companies give 2 days including Friday the day after) Christmas (25th of Dec) (Many Companies give either the day before or the day after) This are the typical 7-8 days, then the rest 2-3 days may come from a range of other holidays or some companies give floating holiday which means you get to pick which holiday you want to take them.

So, 10 sick days. Any person in Australia gets 4 weeks annual leave and 2 weeks sick. Even a janitor.

Yeah it's kinda same in India too (at least in Trivandrum). You get 2 weeks of sick/casual leave and 24 days vacation (2 days for each month worked) per year. So that's a total of 2 + 5 = 7 weeks, and then you get Muslim, Christian, and Hindu holidays totalling 10-15 days extra, + the state/national holidays (usually another 5).

I'd be very cautious about any offer out of the blue. I assume it means that you get 10 days like July 4, I know many holidays in the US are not taken by all companies.

No the offer sounded good and genius, he also gave reference on the company so I could do my own research! Anyway, I'm more like looking for a good .NET job in a town with at most 50.000 people now, so certainly not Boston or LA! ;) and still looking :sigh:

That's 1.5 months, dude! :omg: Any openings in Aussieland? :-D Everybody in India gets 10 days off for religious/national days chosen by the company -> Govt rule. Apart from that, I get 2 weeks paid leave and 8 days sick leave.

            Cheers, Vikram.

While we get two weeks sick leave it cant really be used as holidays. Most employers will require a doctors certificate if you have a friday, monday or more than one day off sick. If an employee used all 10 days with a day here and a day there it wouldnt look good.

You recieved an offer without an interview? Most likely is either a scam or not a "real" company.

I am lucky since being at the same job for twelve years I get 5 weeks annual leave + 10 days sick leave + 13 weeks long service leave + 1 weeks long service leave per year after ten years service. Seeing that I worked all hours when I was a pleb and took little time off, I have managed to accrue 28 weeks leave (140 days)...+ leave loading @ 17%

So electing dirty commies has its upside, I see. ;P Of course, it's not like the other states are immune. :sigh:

I am lucky since being at the same job for twelve years I get 5 weeks annual leave + 10 days sick leave + 13 weeks long service leave + 1 weeks long service leave per year after ten years service. Seeing that I worked all hours when I was a pleb and took little time off, I have managed to accrue 28 weeks leave (140 days)...+ leave loading @ 17%

 So aside from the sick leave, you get 19 weeks off every year? That's close to 5 months! :wtf:

                                    Cheers, Vikram.

No, you get long service leave once. Well, I never will, but some people do.
