Hideous.[^] Freud has the ability to make anyone look ugly. His picture of the Queen[^] looks like she's just trodden in something squishy.

While beauty is not the only potential value in painting it would be nice if it was valued just a little for a change. I'm no fan of so called conceptual art and would therefore consider Freud's more representational work as a positive trend but he's hardly Rembrandt.

You think the painting is ugly? Pity the poor woman whose image it is!

I know a good picture when I see one.......... and that one's utter sh*te. The one of the Queen looks more like he just looked at the Spitting Image puppet of the Queen and painted it from that.

I still remember having to write your own code in FORTRAN rather than be a cut and paste merchant being pampered by colour coded Intellisense - ahh proper programming - those were the days :)

Hey, I didn't mean to offed the Queen or the British. I was referring to the painting.

well, I find the painting beautifull in itself (but not worth 33 millions) not all paintings should be of sveltes models or tomato soup cans; as a technical point of paintings, and all/most arts should represent all aspect of life's esthetism; not only what is beautifull from your own personal point of view.

I agree that not all paintings should be of svelte models but I'm not talking about the subject, but the painting itself. The painting itself is ugly and implemented in an ugly manner, and makes the model look ugly. If I was her I'd be pretty peed off at how he made me look.
