What has happened to CodeProject? [modified]

It started happening at about the 200,000 user mark. I wish that the Indian universities would have a course on proper article posting. Fully 9 out of 10 rejected articles are from Indians that are completely clueless as to what makes an acceptable article.

This used to be a nice place to visit. There was great personalities like Roger Wright, Colin Davies, Daniel Turini, Nish, Megan, code-frog, peterchen, Marc, Jörgen, Kari, Lauren, Anna, JoeSox, Chris, John(the outlaw one), Dunn and a lot more. And all those people that went to Microsoft, Brian, Tom etc. Some are still here but the general "feeling" of the Lounge is gone. Can somebody explain that? jhaga

The Lounge is as it was, and will be again. Or something. :rolleyes: Every new thread posted has an opportunity to bring out the best... or the worst... in its readers. Rather than asking the past to save you from the present, look to it for inspiration and, in each new thread you post, aspire to improve the forum to which you post. Or to put that another way, don't whine about a bad situation, work to improve it.

Sorry, I've been abducted to a bachelor torture camp (also known as "a friends wedding") :D Thank you for making me make that list :-O If you ask me, the prime reason is the influx of many new developers. Remember that 99.9% of everything sucks. If you press me really hard, I'd say it's the influx of many new developers who - for lack of skill or lack of care - want to "contribute" without matching traditional standards of language or conduct. It's what comes swith success. Second, We are living in what has been called "interesting times". Much of what interests me tangents politics or religion - but saying something like "WAR SUCKS" has turned from an attitude into a political statement (Yes, that's ridiculous). The soapbox has caught most of the extreme chaff of the influx. But this has also turned it from an treehugger-vs.-moneyhugger arena into a mosh pit of "lowest standards win". Third, what drove us here was Microsoft. We could praise Microsoft without beein booed on, we could rant at Microsoft without being recommended to switch to Linux. However, Microsoft is changing, and so does our attitude. Our view of Microsoft has grown more diverse, which made our common ground a bit brittle. Just thre guesses at the reasons.

I'm more thoughtful and reflective than I have been in the past. Tough times have changed how I think and approach certain issues, ideas and people. I'm learning that if I spend less time here I can be more efficient with work and that means I can spend more time with my family. Since I don't live to work the math kind of fell out. All the variables were easy to derive and so I unplugged quite a bit. The fact I'm here today is more about having to kill some time while something finishes/starts and less about reading every post. I think the post quality here has gotten ridiculous. There is a lot more infighting from regular to regular and the newly registered accounts that keep popping up show tremendous ability in providing the infighting. The recent stuff involving Leckey... wonder if the thought has ever occurred to her that someone would make stupid posts to incite her response and to anger the regulars even more at her. To the regular members who keep getting angry with her or Nish over the previously mentioned behavior have you given thought to the fact that you are being played on in the same way? What I find fascinating here is that the trolls have gotten extremely smart, they now have more control than most realize and they play the regulars against each other with remarkable dexterity. The resulting brew ha takes the place down a notch and nobody realizes that if they were polite, quit pushing their own interests on everyone and just carried on in a "lounge" type fashion where all are relaxed and lazily sipping something comfy that things would truly be splendid and mellowing. Sadly... the spin-off here has become the main show and the old main show has so much infighting that it's just weird. You will still see many great posts each day here and many will insist that things haven't changed. Truth be told they have. Chris has less respect here. Regulars have less fun here. They show up ready to complain and gripe instead of ready to relax and share and the situation slides just a little bit each day. The net result is less of me and I'm sure many others have done the math and reduced it all down to the same equation. The rats have taken over the ship and I've preferred a good relaxing walk to being a ship the continues to rock violently even when the waters around it appear calm. So that's my take and I leave it for others to pick up or not. I'm off ... ironically to go for a warm walk around my yard to investigate a small sprinkler problem that I believe is the responsibility of a neighbor

Rex - that's an interesting post there, and to a certain extent, I agree. I can't help thinking that passively sitting around letting the destruction continue is the worst possible course of action though. My feeling is that the best thing that we can do is ignore the crap and try to post interesting stuff - ooh my buying a hamster was a doozy. ;P

Have you ever shoveled gravel? It's a lot like crap. The fascinating thing I find is that the biggest shovel load just allows more to slide in. So unless you are prepared to shovel it all out, every last bit then maybe shoveling it is not the right approach. My wife and I have some terrible soil in our yard. Instead of trying to move it, we are just moving past it. We brought in 9 yards of free, fresh dirt and covered it up. The old crappy dirt is still there but nobody sees it as we covered it up so quickly and healthy things now grow on top of "the crap"... I know... go figure... Maybe I'm trying to subtly get you to see something. Maybe I'm whispering loudly. If you don't like/agree then I'm not really doing anything and I'm going back to stuff outside the lounge. I only came back to read a reply from Pete that I'm unsure how I'm going to respond to yet.:rose:

You cannot force people to step back and relax. I tried it for a while and became a target. I don't have the time to save this place and frankly... well... I've really enjoyed only posting once a week/month. It's been relaxing to just lounge in my own life instead of a web page.
