I am looking at setting up an intranet messageboard/forum at work. Does anyone have particulat suggestion/reccomendations/warnings ? The software behind CP looks great, but is it free ? What are the requirements ? How much admin is needed ? Thanks. Elaine :rose: Would you like to meet my teddybear ?

If you use exchange server for your company email, you can have message boards integrated into outlook -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

We use the Snitz forums - easy to configure and install. We had a message board up and running in an afternoon.

You ever tried using them? They're so bad. I wish Outlook could do proper message threading (I know you can use the conversation as the expandable view, but try telling all your collegues how to do that...) I ran a trial of UBB Threads, which I got authorisation to buy it for my group, until the damn IT blocked it because one-day, far-far away, they *might* do something centrally that does the same... If you have PHP and a suitable database (I think it needs mysql) then the one I like is xmbforum

Yabb is the best CGI/Perl board script out there today. I have used it before and it is truely excellent. Free, by the way. http://www.yabbforum.com/ Simon "This is an equal opportunities airline. The pilot is blind." Sonork ID 100.10024

We use it here with multiple message boards for different topics, and don't have any problems with conversation threads (bar the time people forget to add a subject, so the message gets added into "Conversation: None" instead) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

I wish I could delete messages, e.g. once I've read it, Outlook remembers that I've read it, but I can not make the damn thing "delete" messages. Our company board goes back years. The number of "Conversation: None" topics is depressing. Regards, Ray

Oh, somebody here (I forget who sorry) has produced a PHP version of the CP boards also. It's at the web scripting (or something like that) section. Simon "This is an equal opportunities airline. The pilot is blind." Sonork ID 100.10024

I had an easy time with Snitz as well, though it did get hacked recently - part of the problem with using a well known freeware system. Have also encountered ODBC errors talking to the database, but it may be a helpless victim of other evils on that one... That's just a setup issue I think. At my office somebody deletes old posts regularly and it's usually possible to delete your own posts too -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

We too can delete our own posts and also have experimented in the past with a 14 day auto deletion. But for a company full of developers, having a long history of discussions is very useful. The Outlook Message Boards may work as a "notice board", but they have not worked in my company (400 people) as a discussion forum. Regards, Ray
