Woo hoo, At last I did it.

At last I could install mono and monodevelop in my linux machine. It is having Fedora core and I was facing a lot of problem while trying to install mono in it. Previously I was using mono from their official site and was getting some error saying libexif.so.9 is missing. At last 'yum' came to my help. :) Done my first 'winform' app (Gtk#) using mono :)

That must have been a Fedora specific problem. When I installed monodevelop on SUSE 10.3 I experienced no problems at all, except that the IDE somethimes crashes on changing a project's runtime version from 1.1 to 2.0. ---- By the way, I don't use mono because I want to run absolutely everything on Linux. I use mono because I want to code everything in C#, no matter which OS I'm running at the moment. ;)
This statement is false.

could you publish maybe an article about installing mono step by step, have not seen any informative help about making it install without pulling some hair out :) whats the best distro to use?

Ubuntu. You install mono directly from the Ubuntu repository. I think it only tales like 3 clicks and 4 keystrokes (mono) to install it.

Yes, It was a Fedora specific problem. The downloads available in the official site[^] is not suitable for fedora. We have to use only the fedora specific builds from repository like livina[^]. I installed a couple of packages from the former and it created a lot of problems. Anyway now every thing is fine now; Thanks for Google. ;P

A lot of distributions are available and it is difficult to select one. The following are the ones that I tried. Ubuntu: Good to use as a desktop, if you are only using for basic needs. Mandriva: Look and feel is good, but finding drivers for hardware is too painful Fedora: I finally settled with this one. :) The latest version (Fedora Core 9) is released a week back.

I've settled on Ubuntu, not leat because of Mythbuntu[^] With 8.04 I've got the HDMI audio working and it's far more responsive than any windows based system I've seen. Elaine (Hardy fluffy tigress)
