Pain in the...finger

I've recently (this week) developed a sharp pain in the tip of my left index finger. It's not really noticeable most of the time. But kicks in when I press the tip (Like when typing or holding a pen). There's no visible scar or mark. I wondered if I'd got a splinter or something like that, but I can't see anything. I'd feel pretty stupid going to a doc and saying my finger hurts. Anybody encountered anything similar. Does this sound RSI related?

Could be... I had it on the tip on my right index finger, shifted mouse to left hand side and now the pain is clearing up, slowly.

Jam another finger on another hand, this will take the pain away for the first finger.

Boy, and I thought I pounded the keyboard hard :-D. Seriously, you could have broken a blood vessel in the end of your finger. If the pain clears up in a couple of days, that was probably it. It could also be a stress fracture, although that's pretty unusual. If it's that, it would take a couple of months to heal. You would need to avoid stressing it during that time, which would mean not using it while you type, write, etc. I've seen fingertip pads in the drug store and office supply that might help.

A Sardarji goes to the doctor and says "Doc, I ache all over. Wherever I touch, it hurts." The doc says "Ok, touch your elbow." The Sardarji touches his elbow and winces in genuine pain. The doc, surprised, says "Touch your head." The Sardarji touches his head and jumps in agony. The doc asks him to touch his knee and the same thing happens. Everywhere the Sardarji touches it hurts like hell. The doc is stumped and orders a complete examination with X-rays and tells the Sardarji to come back after two days. No -- Don't do that! Codeine is generally combined with acetaminophen ("paracetamol" in England), which can't be taken with alcohol. The combination will damage your liver!

When I get worked up, I tend to pound the keys when I'm typing. I get that problem in the index and middle fingers of both hands (I'm not much of a touch typer ;P ). If I push with the fatty pads that are on the bottom of the fingers, not the tips, it seems to help. For about 30 seconds,until I forget and use the tips again. A week or two of careful and the pain goes away. Than I read another post that T's me off and here we go again.
