How else would IP lawyers make money?
xacc.ide - now with TabsToSpaces support
IronScheme - 1.0 alpha 4a out now (29 May 2008)Yeah... I was thinking that as I skimmed over the patent. Bunch of to$$ers.

I'm positive the concept was used on electronic, hydraulic & mechanical devices long before any GUI was invented. Some dweeb applies it to a PC and suddenly it's patentable? What a crock!

Good lord, how could anyone write that much stuff about a slider control? I'd almost read it just to know, but I'd probably die.

Actually, you can do that. If you have a technology that's used solely in the physical and mechanical world, and if you apply it to software, you'll likely get a patent.

The sad state of things e that if it wasn't MS, it would be some other company or person that would then use it to make a lot of undeserved money.
Yeah. patents are just a necessary evil in this industry. If I had Microsoft stock, I'd pretty much expect them to do this.

LOL! cough cough, I'm positive it was first seen on the Mac.

Yeah, I don't agree with it either. I'm not sure that the people doing these patents at Microsoft agree either. But they have to do it -- it's just the business that we're in.
-
Than you should look what else they have patented: Link to MS patents
There can be only one.

Fortunately we don't have software patents in the EU yet. I hope they never force them here, this is ridiculous.
-
Now on M$ surface is it a physical control same as a old audio rack? How about when surface gets enabled with force feed back and texture technologies?
-
OK, guys, just a note : this patent is NOT about a slider control itself, nor about a scrollbar. It's about using a slider to control some other parameter, e.g. using it to select a shape for another control (square, rectangle, triangle, ...) or a color or something like that. Nevertheless, it is crazy one can patent such a thing !

Adobe should patented this as well as tabs.

Actually try again.. It was first seen on the Commodore 128 and used a lot on the Amiga OS. I know because I wrote one of the tools using that capability! :-)
