Which DivX video on WinNT/win2k
-
Hello! Friend of mine bring me CD with some AVI movies and says that they are in DivX format. Can anyone recommend video player for playing such movies for win32 platform. Can I play this on winNT4 (ie. without new DirectX libs) or I need win2000 (I have no win9x/winME box and do not plan to install this)? I try to search on Google, found some links to various movie players, but which one should I pick up? I'm lost in this a little. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. DivX is a hacked Microsoft Codec, so as has been stated already, once you install it, any player will play it. As a result of it's origin, your player may 'warn' you not to use it, but don't worry, I use it exclusively with no ill effects. Funny how a bunch of guys can hack into a M$ driver and turn it into the only viable alternative for good quality/small size video files. I use it to digitise all my music videos and run them on my second screen when coding.... Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. Do not confuse "DivX ;-)" (yes, the smiley is part of the name) with DivX the late, and not so great DVD movie players. They are two different things. DivX ;-) is a codec you install in your computer. DivX was a DVD format used for creating pay-per-view DVD's.
