Yes, but a pretty good one. :)

Firefox is not a good piece of software by my standards (crashes, eats memory, slow...). Granted, it is a little less bad than IE, but still nothing worth the excitement.

From a discussion on a Nokia site Firefox is meant to make use of all the resources available to it, so if you've got the memory it's gonna eat it. Hence why they can't port it to Symbian platforms.

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong with inviting the entire planet to download your software on one day but not having the commercial resources of a large company to make sure it all works properly? ;)

Err, I'm using FF3 to post htis: just got it about 10 minutes ago from: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-rc.html[^] It is pitched as Relaease Candidate 3: I preumed that was the correct one as the main page is still showing FF2. Wouldn't make me want to give up IE7/8. It's just another browser.

Well, as a (web-)programmer it is a working tool and I just can't work with IE so I'm pretty happy about it - although the whole date/time debacle of the download day makes them look like idiots.

Yeah, they've ballsed it up by: a. not publicising the time it was due to start. b. starting at least 18 hours into the publicised day for the majority of the world. c. starting it the day after the publicised for anywhere east of India. 10:00 PDT? Great idea guys

Since when is Europe "the majority of the world"? c. wtf? O_o And btw, they wanted to set a world record. They said the start time according to their offices, to the server location, and probably according to the time in the place that the record will be recorded in. What's with all the bitching anyway. They seem to be begging for a DDOS attack with this publicity stunt. I use FireFox because it sucks a little less than IE. Color me not that excited.

                                    a. So, tell me, how did you know? The download day site just said the 17th, and the email they sent said "Download Day will start on June 17, 2008". This looked like their final mail on the matter. Neither suggested that the start time was approximate. What they should've said is that it'd be at some point on the 17th (their time), and that they'd email again once it had started. b. I didn't say Europe though, did I? "At least 18 hours into the publicised day" is everyone east of Iceland through to the international date line. That's a lot of people. c. Not sure whether you've understood here or not. Anyway, it was the 18th in Japan, China and Australia, amongst other places, by the time download day started.

                                      a. I agree that they screwed up with the e-mail notification. It did have the link though to the main "record" website (the Spread Firefox one), which had the time (10.00 CPD) and a link to a website with times for each part of the world.. ( they posted that on the 16th of June: here[^]) b. Yeah, you didn't.. But that's the west coast of Europe ;) c. Fair enough.. But if they set the start of the download day on midnight CET or GMT, the Americans would have the Download Day started somewhere in the evening of the day. So someone was bound to have it late anyway. If it's not one it's the other :)

Yeah, that forum post is where I eventually read it after asking Google (I don't frequent the Firefox forums, not that much of a fanboy ;) ) I just don't get why they didn't put the info on the main site.

I don't know myself.. :) I got that link because I set the main SpreadFirefox page's RSS feed to my reader, so that I know when't the download day.. :) But it's spammed so much that once I got the date and time, I removed it from the reader
