Hello, I would like to participate in the Code Generation 2008 Competition. Unfortunately, as I am a resident of the Province of Quebec in Canada, I can not participate in this contest :( . I understand why I can not participate. Our laws are too restrictive or too complex. I must therefore comply with your rules. But would it be possible to add a small explaction to this fact? To my surprise, the name of my province is in the same list of some countries that support terrorism without any other explanation ... Soldiers from my province are fighting against terrorism. Soldiers from my province died on the battlefield as others Canadien Soldiers. A little respect would be greatly appreciated on your part. Eligibility This competition is open to software development professionals & enthusiasts who are of the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence; however, residents of Quebec and of the following countries are ineligible to participate due to legal constraints: Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. Employees (or a member of their immediate family) of The Code Project or of Microsoft or any of their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising or promotional agencies are also ineligible to participate. Void where prohibited by law. Thank you an hope you will do something to change this!

So you want the text to change but the rules to still apply? Seems pretty PC to me. I also wasn't aware that Cuba was a terrorist nation. I thought they were just a bit sad and backward.

As a non Quebecer Canadian I know I and everyone I know has always been mystified about the "not eligible in Quebec" rule we see on every bloody contest ever our whole lives even though we live no where near the province of Quebec. I've always been a bit annoyed about that. :) On the bright side it's a good thing for separatists to have the province lumped in with actual countries no? ;)

I just threw
"not eligible in Quebec"into google. In addition to this thread it came up with a youtube item whose comment implied that the contest bans are because there aren't french versions of the contests or prizes. (not 100% sure since youtube's verboten and I only had the google excerpt to look at)Today's lesson is brought to you by the word "niggardly". Lottery commission of Quebec requires payouts to be between 35% and 75% of wager and a bond to be posted? for a lottery. If there is no entrance fee it would seem the payout would have to be nil.

Well, I could tell you... but then I would have to shoot you... ;P at least half of that was joke.... but you are not allowed to discuss anything dealing with terrorism. If someone or someplace is marked as on that list, you no longer have the ability to talk about why, because explaining why is supporting terrorism. Sending money there is the same. I don't know why you are on the list, but you will now never find out why because the reason will be classified.

No, they don't.
