Coffee Alternatives, not Caffeine Alternatives...
-
I'm curious to know what else is out there that is not coffee? I've been drinking Advocare Spark for years and loved it. I've had stomach problems for years and never knew why. Money problems kept me from getting any and the month off my stomach was great. Having sleep apnea I pretty much need caffeine. No choice. So I switched to Rockstar. I simply love those energy drinks (you either love them or hate them). I'm concerned about all the non FDA approved stuff in them. I like loads of caffeine but the other stuff is a concern. Coffee rips my stomach up. Just too much acid. Do you have a caffeine drink you really like that isn't sugar free and not loaded with weird stuff? (Cannot be coffee, Cannot be sugar free. Sugar free hurts my stomach something good.)
Diet Pepsi is a lot easier on the teeth than coca cola.

I've temporarily upped my daily caffeine intake to 9 cups of espresso, which allows for a wonderfully efficient 14-hr workday, although I'm beginning to question the wisdom of this (the 9 cups of espresso i.e., not the 14-hr workday). /ravi

I was told by a doc that the caffeine was what caused the acid. I usually just take generic Zantac over the counter acid reducers, get then for about a nickel apiece. Roy

Why don't you try caffeine pills, with gensing and the other various substances they put in those energy drinks? I'm not much into stimulants, but some of that stuff works surprisingly well. Add psudoephedrine for an extra kick in the brain, the psudoephedrine by itself works quite well. I used to take 60mg of it every Sunday before work because it gave me energy and stamina, more than caffeine could give me. There is also Ritilan and Adderall.

I took ephe for years in allergy medicine. It does nothing for me at all. Might as well be sugar.

I suggest green tea.

Personally I'm a big fan of energizing teas or brews of different sorts. For myself, fresh peppermint (not that cheap tea bag crap) or ginger brew work best. I went steadily down to at most 3 cups of coffee (usually even less) per day by that.

The Death-by-Caffeine website reckoned you'd need to drink a bladder-crippling 600 cups of green tea to receive a fatal dose, so I don't think green tea will hit the spot for code-frog. I would suggest green tea too, but only cos I like it. :D

...interesting drink from South America. Traditionally served in a special gourd, I'm sure it's also OK to drink from a mug. (just don't tell anyone)
i used to drink this stuff at uni. The whole gourd + pipore (SP?) ritual was fun and damn did that stuff wake you up. It's naturally sugar free so doesn't contain all those dodgy sweeteners. I think it's available in tea bags these days aswell Russell

Tea. Not the weak bagged stuff sold for iced tea in US markets, but real tea. I highly recommend Upton Tea Imports. Great products and great service. ($4 flat rate shipping...they sent my last package priority mail and it went from MA to CA in under 48 hours...for $4!) Look at the breakfast blends in the miscellaneous section. Or any of the Assams. Make them strong and add a bit of milk (British style) and sugar if you like. Plenty of caffeine and much better for your stomach than coffee.
I can't agree more - I use leaf black tea, not teabags, in a pot with an inbuilt strainer - it holds four mugs full at a time and I must go through six pots per day while at work. I drink it straight - no milk or sugar - and go for the stronger blends - Kenyan, Assam, English Breakfast, with an occasional foray into the more fragrant but less stronger varieties such as Darjeeling, Keemun, Earl Grey and Ceylon. I'm not a great fan of green teas, despite their supposed health benefits, though black tea without milk (black tea is the type of tea, not the fact you take it unmilked) is also supposed to protect against heart disease and diabetes
