Stupid / negligent / an idiot / all of the above? The reason we didn't bail is that we took their word that it was only temporary. My company has used this company for over 7 years, so when they assured us it was only a temp thing and wouldn't effect anything, why shouldn't we believe them?

We have a backup, but it is old. I wasn't here when the website was made, and the people who made it were supposed to maintain it for us. Because they didn't completely fulfill that, they are making us a new one now :-D Oh well I finish on Thursday so it wont be my problem then.

Are they going to maintain the new one? Or just wait until a new ISP folds? Who really cares, you're done Thursday.

I suspect none of us have backups as current as they should be... *cue the list of people wanting to brag about their 15 minute backup schedule*

Pretty much no worries if you are bailing out. Leave the mess for someone else :-\

Well the other sites we have which are all housed internally, are on an hourly backup, but this one for some reason was hosted outside

Yeah well I am still the IT guy here for 2 more days... so either I fix it (or at least do something about it) or put up with the winging.

Don't you just hate upper management who think that, because they can run some aspects of the business, they know everything about everything? They kind of remind me of teenagers... Teenagers know everything about everything, then as they get older, know nothing.

That is precisely what I deal with. I do have one client who wants to mirror two databases, no big deal, but they want to do it in MS Access. I've explained over and over that SQL 2008 will do the trick once it is released.

So our companies website was hosted with a local ISP in town. A couple of weeks ago they stopped taking new customers and stopped selling any hardware. Today our website went down. When I tried to contact them, their email and their website are down, phones are disconnected and all the ftp and ip's are not responding. I rang another company who do a lot of work with this ISP and they said that the ISP is closed down without the view to re-open. So now we lost our website and have to make another one.

Stupid / negligent / an idiot / all of the above? The reason we didn't bail is that we took their word that it was only temporary. My company has used this company for over 7 years, so when they assured us it was only a temp thing and wouldn't effect anything, why shouldn't we believe them?

Q: Are you closing up shop? Thought: If we answer yes, we loose companies, money, and make the last few months miserable and we might as well close doors now and walk away... but if we answer no, we may be lying, but we will squeeze a few more months of profit out of the business, close the doors and walk away and they will never know we lied.... A: No, of course not.
