It's been a while since I have heard of a big virus outbreak like the 'good old days': saphire, melissa, i love you...Do you think people are wiser when it comes to opening emails, or maybe the tools are more adept at stopping them (i.e. outlook / xp)? I remember once we had an outbreak of some virus at work ('i love you' or something similar). It was a fairly small-to-midsized company of about 50 people. The virus kept spreading around so the IT guy made everyone shut off their computer and he went to each one specifically and ran the cleaner. No sooner than he got everyone up and running did someone open the exact same virus email again and start the process all over. Funny stuff!

Well, the Storm worm is named after the situation it used to make people read the mails it propagated through: The aftermath of hurricane "Cyril" (Kyrill). Also, modern worms tend to spread automatically, using vulnerabilities in networking equipment and server software.

While it may be fun to watch a virus go around the world, virii writers realized it's MUCH more profitable to make Botnets, and sell them.

"Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit..." "There is no one who loves pain itself, who seeks after it and wants to have it, simply because it is pain..."
