Going along with the Hobbies[^] post from a few days ago, I'm only a few hours away from a week's vacation. I am participating in a 340 mile non-stop canoe race. Missouri River 340[^] I have 100 hours to go the full distance. What sorts of extreme events do the rest of you participate in? Hogan

Have fun with that and share your experience when you return :-D Sounds like something I'd like to try, but not sure about 340 miles in 100 hours...

None, really. But out here in Southern California, there is a long distance running race called the Angeles Crest 100-miler. 100 miles, no big deal, but the highest point of the race is near the top of the 10,0064ft high Mt. Baldy.

I'm eating a beer-braised italian sausage w/ sauerkraut, carmelized onions, fried potatoes, and spicy mustard on a garlic-buttered roll, with a pickled pepper on the side. It's extremely good... :-\

Extreme Buzzard watching.... (at all depends on who is watching whom) Extreme Diamond-back dodging... Extreme Bird-spider slalom... Extreme downhill road-kill production... Extreme Oryx racing (normal is when the oryx is in front of you... extreme is vice versa) Extreme Cougar racing (same as above)... Extreme humor... this is when your partner jokes to an army enlisted man who holds a 50mm machine gun pointed at you during a live drill.... and then there was the one bout of extreme out-of-control missile avoidance.... oh... and I forgot... extreme debugging... Your software crashes during a "live" event, money is on the table, you have 12 minutes to find and fix the bug or your company looses more money than they will ever pay you.... :omg:

For sure. These peaches are from the western slopes [of the Rockies], picked & frozen at the top of the season last year. Every month or so, i'll thaw out a package to remind myself what good peaches taste like. Today though, it's in honor of a friend's birthday - we're gonna ride up and surprise him once it cools off a bit this evening. :)

For sure. These peaches are from the western slopes [of the Rockies], picked & frozen at the top of the season last year. Every month or so, i'll thaw out a package to remind myself what good peaches taste like. Today though, it's in honor of a friend's birthday - we're gonna ride up and surprise him once it cools off a bit this evening. :)

Mmmmm, they sound good. I should try and plant a peach tree or two. I have to look up varieties that have some cold hardiness ( -10F to 10F range )...

Though the prize goes to one of my customers... he loves to speed.... he was doing his usual jaunt down a straight and open road, no one in site but the buzzards in the distance.... he came up on a buzzard in the road too fast... he tried to slow down, the buzzard tried to fly, but also tried to take his meal with him... the latter choice was abandoned at the last second to have a fresh road kill rabbit well sunbaked but still quite moist, go "splat" against the windshield at (he claims) about 75mph... I figure he probably didn't slow down under 90 when the splat occured.... so he is the only person I know who has hit a rabbit twice, once after it was already dead, and flying at him....
