My parents bought me a XANTREX 1000 Power Inverter so my CPAP could be more portable. I have a marine deep cycle battery that I use when I go camping with my son but if I had an electrical outlet then I could take some other stuff. If I'm in a tent, could my son and I use it to watch movies on a laptop and such without a grounding rod or should I drive the 30 minutes to my dads house, get the copper wire and the grounding rod and do it right? My father claims in the mountains I have virtually no need to ground it. He said in your car... different story. Ground it whenever you use it in your car. What's the consensus? Am I risking my life to not ground it in the hills? Last thing I want is to get my face blown off at 3:00AM because something freaky happened with my CPAP. My son probably would dig really having darth vader for a father but I think I'd tire of it very quickly. :-D

Wow... That's the third reply now trashing the idea of going camping and watching a movie. It's starting to sound almost as unpopular as my yoghurt and fried eggs breakfast... :~ FWIW: with the right companion, it can be a very enjoyable activity. And i also enjoy drive-in movies, for similar reasons. Don't knock what you haven't tried...

normally the purpose of camping is to get back to basics, get in touch with nature... then shoot it :-\

Picture yourself in another campsite close by hoping to get away for some relaxing time in nature leaving the cares of civilization behind. Then well into the night you can see the glow of a TV and hear someone watching Rambo 23 and all the previous Rambos after that. X| Drive in movies are fine because you expect to hear and see a movie. Camping trips bring to mind campfires and the like.

I have a 2 year old and a 7 year old both weeks away from having tonsils removed. They both tire quickly, become cranky quickly and well... a movie is a better than medicine in my book.

It worked a treat and I had no idea how many times we would need to let them decompress. They flat out went "negative" in short order.
