HTC Touch Diamond (P3700) - First Impressions [modified]

So, I've used this cool toy[^] for a couple of days. :cool: The custom HTC interface crashed once, but Windows was still responsive. I had to restart the device because there is no way to restart the application. The device is usually fast enough when doing telephone-related stuff, but it becomes a bit slow in the other cases. Pre-installed Google Maps with GPS support is really useful. Or, it would be really useful when you are in roaming and have no Internet access. So, a standard navigation software would be better. HSDPA download speed is however very impressing. The screen resolution is simply outstanding. The screen is so crystal clear that ClearType has little to no effect. The screen is clearly intelligible even in direct sunlight (brightness is automatically adjusted based on the level of ambient light). Syncing with a Vista PC is quick and painless. Sound quality during phone calls over UMTS/3G is excellent. Did not try while in GSM. The battery duration is not the best. I guess that a charge is required every two days in my case. The device itself is small and light and even with its "sharp" edges is very comfortable both in your hands and pocket. I'm really satisfied so far. Update: unfortunately, it does not include the RDP client... :mad:

Thanks for the info. I've been seriously thinking about buying a HTC Touch Diamond. But it looks like a Panasonic Lumix TZ5/15 will be my next tech purchase. I've read some comments that the touch screen itself is a bit hard to use. How have you found it?

Most parts have controls big enough to be used with your fingers. Even the X button, which is 4x4 mm can be used without problems. When it comes to using the QUERTY virtual keyboard, or browsing the web, the pen is better. I've still to understand how to rotate the screen manually because the integrated accelerometer does not work outside HTC's custom applications.

I'm very happy with mine, although it takes some getting use to. But I do regret not waiting for the Pro version with the slide out keyboard :D

Most of the reviews point out that its biggest con is the lack of a memory card slot, which kind of sucks, considering that most navigation software runs from SD cards.

I'm quite sure TomTom Navigator works with the internal storage. I'll try...
