Usually you'll have a docking station in the office into which you plug a keyboard, mouse, network cable, power supply etc. Now when you arrive at the office you just take the notebook out of the bag, connect it to the docking station and away you go. No more crawling under desks to rescue network cables or to reach the socket for the power supply. http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/HP_Docking_Stations/prod.asp[^]

ho.. I see, thanks! I didn't know about that! But thanks fully I don't have to crawl, all wire lay on the desk while I'm out... ;)

A train station is where the train stops. A bus station is where the bus stops. On my desk, I have a work station.... _________________________________________________________ My programs never have bugs, they just develop random features.

https://www.casedepot.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=645[^] They call them "transportable" we used to buy lots of them before laptops went dual core.

.. can't wait for the quad core laptop anymore :^) I was hoping to get one beut seeing that Intel has still not released one I will have to settle for a dual core. Has anyone bought a new laptop recently they can recommend? It is mainly for development work (with VS2008) so 16" upwards is essential! I am also a fan of the left "Ctrl" button on the OUTSIDE, the "Fn" on the inside. (Yes, I know you can swap them in the BIOS but that is not the same! :-O ) Would like to hear your opinions ... F

That looked totally awesome until I saw the sticker price. What're they throwing in to justify that much of a premium over case + monitor + keyboard?

ahhh, you mean like my job before this: "Jr. Programmer needed, BS, 2 years experience, accounting programming, accounting background preferred." get in the door and : "you are responsible for all programming, applications, installations, user training, building wiring, fixing anything when anyone screws up, and your predicessor has an AI program that does market price prediction you will have to maintain... and can you improve its predictive capability? and if anything goes wrong with a computer anywhere, its your fault, fix it."

Not much... a lan strap would do the same. There is no battery, standard power supply. The LCD is built in, but isn't any higher quality.... Pretty much you are paying for a market niche machine. That's why we stopped buying them after laptops could do what we needed.
