Try getting rid of their AV app. What REALLY pisses me off is McAfee - they pop an ad window from their tray icon promoting their products (rarely but when they appear everything turns red for some reason)

Norton ... as in Symantec ??? I vote for all of the above. I had to call them the other week to try to resolve an issue with their software (Backup Exec System Recovery), little to say I would rather have a tooth extraction than deal with them. I wouldn't recommend anything by that company for any purpose to anybody.

A true statement! I can't stand either of those packages. It's the reason I use AVG (grisoft.com) for my AV defense. Of the AV s/w I've tried out its been the only one that is inocuous, seems to do its job, and doesn't take up a ton of the cpu bandwidth for its resident service. To top it off, AVG comes in a free version (the one I use).

Norton (Symantec) anti-virus is itself a virus. I believe that even if you uninstall Windows, their anti-virus program will continue to run.

I have received spam email from McAfee. They wanted me to buy spam blocking software... Sounds like buying protection from the Mafia. :~

I used to use all their products (firewall / ghost / AV / ...) untill I searched for days to get a programme working (wich needed an internet connection) Couldn't figure out was was blocking it, turned the firewall and AV off, didn't help, uninstalled them, didn't help. In the end I found the solution, I had to go into the firewall and AV programme files, alter some lines and then it worked. Turns out that even after you uninstall them the ports they were blocking keep being blocked. Now I use mcafee (cooperate edition) and have to say haven't had any problems with it (so far) They only symantic programme I still use from time to time is ghost (since my home pc's have images taken with it)

Actually, good. Internet Security uninstalled without a hitch (cleanly) and Anti-Virus just installed without problems.

Veritas was the best backup/recovery software…before Symantec to buy out the company. Norton was one of the best AV solutions… before Symantec to buy out the company.
