Hi All, My question is, whether CodeJock answers to the calls of reviewing article ratings or not. Say, you publish a nice article, people like it, giving it rating of 5. Then somebody comes and gives you rating of 1, without any explanation, without any reason, just 1, that's it. And your rating is plummeting down from 5 into way under 4 or even lower. So you start asking yourself - what is going on? You are starting to get pissed... This can be very discouraging for anyone publishing articles, and you want to search out the truth, get someone senior on the website to interfere and get rid off such nonsense in the rating, because otherwise you won't publish here ever again, it's just bizarre why someone anonymously and intentionally ruins good rating of your article and just gets away with it, leaving you suffering and thinking "what's wrong, for crisake?". So, is it possible to get rating of an article reviewed and fixed on this website? This is the article that I just published and got very controversial rating that's really bothering me: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/COM/prosyslib2.aspx 3 people came and said "rubbish - 1!" (well, not really said, 'cos they got nothing to say, of course). But what I say, these people are full of rubbish. Now, is there anything that I can do about it?

Don't get too worked up about votes. It doesn't require an explanation so it's all up in the air. If a comment was required when someone voted on an article it might actually be constructive.

81% rated it a 5 so I wouldn't worry much about 3 one's. It's been out there 1 day and gain more meaning over time after more people have reviewed it and voted.

I have not voted for your article yet. However I admit that if I decided to vote that it would probably be a low number. I did not find any useful information in your article. When I read an article here on codeproject I fully expect to come away with more knowledge about the subject. In some articles perhaps a great narrative about how the author overcame obstacles will generate higher scores. I would suggest the following: 1.) Give us a narrative about your process of discovery of those 'undocumented techniques'. 2.) Add some technical details about retrieving system information using NtQuerySystemInformation. 3.) Show what information can be obtained from the registry and what information cannot. 4.) Release the source code. I will abstain from voting pending future updates. Best Wishes, -David Delaune

Which is why the voting system doesn't mean much. You're not the only one reading the article. Everyone's knowledge level is different, so for soemone else it might be enlightening. Someone who posts an article shouldn't get an overall low score because more people voted who knew more about it than those that didn't because that in itself doesn't make it a bad article. Everyone should continue to post articles because it will inevitably be of help to someone and it if helps just one person then it's a good article. The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many.

I'm not sure what CodeJock would say, but we at CodeProject have thought about this a lot and so have: - added a histogram so others can see which votes are in the majority and which are spurious - complete faith in the law of averages which says, over time, your article will attain a vote indicative of it's worth - systems in place to watch for users voting maliciously. However, a vote of 1 is a legitimate vote. There doesn't have to be a reason. It doesn't have to be accurate. It's someone's choice. Exactly the same for someone voting 5. Just hang tight and watch what happens.

hey vitaly ... don't worry ... you can't please all the people all the time ... even hollywood has to live by that maxim ... the article looks good and i'm sure the people who even understand what it's about and why it's good really don't care about other peoples voting idiosyncracies ... keep up the good work :)

Having recently ranted about the same thing I feel that there not having to be a reason somewhat devalues the point of voting at all and whilst we don't post to get votes when we do get low votes without a comment it is very frustrating. If my article is crap tell me why; if the code is complete spagbol, tell me why; if you can see room for improvement and have a suggestion, give it to me. I really don't think that is a lot to ask after the effort someone has taken to write the article in the first place.

Dunno, I think some people vote 1 simply because they don't have a need for the article at the time. "You Take the Good, You Take the Bad, You Take Them Both and There You Have the Facts of Life."

Both 1, 2 and 3 would be a totally different subject, about technical analysis of the projects, which is subject for C++ and other development. I will eventually publish it, but as a separate article, i wouldn't want to make a mess in an article that has a different target - to explain the project and to show what is it for and how it can be used. Item 4 - source code is available, i just didn't upload it on CodeProject. In fact, i eventually didn't upload anything on CodeProject, it seems to have constant problems with downloading, it fails all the time. So, all the downloads refer to my own website, the website where source code of the project also is, links to which i provided as well as download links for the source code.

I agree. Some people are putting a lot of time and effort into contributing to this website, so their work should have some degree of protection. Things like (as someone else suggested) compulsory comments when voting, or having a certain amount of posts before you can vote etc etc, would go a long way to making writing an article a lot more appealing. Maybe a little bit of investigation into accounts that are voting 1 all the time?

I fully agree with Jim Turners comments to your article. The rating system is known to be a bit hazardous on the first votes, but if you check the existing article base yo uwill see that in the long run, the rating reflects article quality and resonance very well. I understand your frustration, but I see no technical solution here for a problem that is mostly social.

If you want unbiased input, post it here, and let it go...after awhile you'll get enough feedback to disregard the 1's. However, the same can be said for the 5's you get from those who just want to be nice, but really thing it's a 3 or 4...
