Colin^Davies wrote: traffic usage must be large Sure, but how do you really stop spammers? I've long since reached the +-500 limit on my address block list on Hotmail and a bunch of the spam still makes it passed the Junk Mail Filter. What's wierd is that some @microsoft.com emails get caught in the filter? You'd think that those would be exempt? SimonS wrote: I've long since reached the +-500 limit on my address block list on Hotmail and a bunch of the spam still makes it passed the Junk Mail Filter I did that too. Delete a bunch and block on the domain and not the full adress. (if you dont do that already) I think that spam is getting worse every fu**ing day, and they seem to get bigger to, so you have to constantly empty so the inbox dont fill up. X| And then you get some mails that pops up IE windows from outlook express, and occasionaly crashes OE. (I use OE for my hotmail's) And i keep getting one mail, returned from sender and some name REGINALDO..something and a mail i never have sent. Have gotten it about 20 times! And i cant add it to the block-sender list, becuase hotmail complains that it actually is a valid returned mail!? :wtf: /Magnus

Is it specified anywhere or u just came to know after reaching the limit... SimonS wrote: What's wierd is that some @microsoft.com emails get caught in the filter? thats very unsual, it shouldnt happen unless you have specified it explicitly. Cheers, Kannan

All email should be digitally signed to verify who sent it. If we all stopped accepting non digitally signed email spammers jobs would be harder. Also many private users of common ISP's should be forced to use white lists to filter out non authorised email. Several data-base type anti-spam solutions exist it's just that ISP's compete on price and not service. Note: they think its I$P, we should all remember the S is for service and demand it. Run your own mail server instead of replying on the ISPS and use some of the blacklists that exist to refuse to accept mail from known spammers IP addresses. With some other rules you can filter at least 90% of the spam. Sadly, to do this properly you need a permanent internet connection, and to be running some kind of unix as the windows tools don't seem quite up to the job yet.

I use a little app called spamweasel. It sits between your mail server and your mail client (OE in my case). Any messages coming in not matching its rules are marked and then a message rule in OE sends them to the bin where I can verify them each day. it doesn't stop spam, it just stops it interfering with your important mail.
