What purposes are p2p networks used for? Do you think that the music industry has a point that the main use (whether intended or not) has been to share copyrighted material?

I run an internal P2P network to distribute files.

So the creationist says: Everything must have a designer. God designed everything. I say: Why is God the only exception? Why not make the "designs" (like man) exceptions and make God a creation of man?

I am talking about the public ones, not the technology or products that enable it. I assume that your setup is accessible only within your organization.

It's a *great* way to download OpenOffice or the latest Linux distro, I'm thinking of using it to help distribute our commercial software trial version.

I find it much easier to just download these from a fast FTP server (of which there are plenty).

I believe Channel 4[^] (UK) use it for their 4od[^] (TV on demand over the web) service.

The BBC use same system from 'Kontiki, Inc' for their iPlayer downloads.

It's *waaaaaay* faster using bittorrent, I get unbelievably fast download speeds that way.

Really? I tried both and I get the same speeds for torrent and FTP (i.e. the maximum my ADSL line supports).
