What's wrong with IE6??

When I open a new window on a link, IE 6 sometimes decides NOT to show the status bar. Highly annoying. Has anybody else experienced this? FreeBSD is sexy. Getting closer and closer to actually submit an article...

I didn't think it was IE6 - I thought it was an XP thing. But yes, I've noticed it on XP systems. I have never noticed it on IE6 on my win2k box here at work, though. -- Russell Morris "Have you gone mad Frink? Put down that science pole!"

It appears to be some sort of interdependancy between Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer on WinXP. By default WinXP Explorer windows *don't* have a status bar. And this affects IE as well. My solution was to turn the status bar on in an Explorer window and do a "make all Folders like this one" in Tools->Options.

Shog may have touched on the problem/solution as I have both Explorer and Internet Explorer windows with status bars shown by default, and have never had this new window problem. However, I do have a problem with all application windows in Windows XP on this, my home machine... they randomly get sized the same size as the full screen but they are not maximised. This is extremely annoying, especially in IE when I like to have new windows open at 800 x 600 by default. God help it if I ever find out what is causing this.

What it appears to be is that if you have your status bar on be default in IE6 that when you launch a new IE browser instance from either the Start Menu or a shortcut everything is fine. If you take that same browser and go to File->New you will get a new IE window without a status bar. Same problem exists with popups I imagine. :wtf: -Steven

This happens to me all the time on XP. I toggle the status bar on and then at some point when I don't notice it gets toggled back off. Very irritating.
