What is "scratch" and why can everything be made from it?

What do I care how they implemented the kernel (except for device-driver writers)? Some optimizations might be possible because we know the internals. Most people use MFC/WTL so they aren't really affected by the Win32 api code. And I can't imagine the Unix crowd gaining anything useful out of it (except the Wine ppl). They, and everyone else for that matter, would be having fun pointing out the bugs in the code. The above also applies to the undocumented functions. Most people would have no use for them anyway. And the ones that do have already found (most?) them. I prefer if Microsoft were to release their strategy documents rather than source code. But I don't think Ballmer is gonna hand over Microsoft's future plans anytime soon :) bibamus, edamus, cras moriemur

I agree. Most of the IE/Shell API have been relesed already. Maybe they will release more KERNEL32/GDI32/USER32 API. Who knows. I think it will be a non-story. It could save Microsoft years of testing to discover the bugs their critics will be quick to point out! If the MS-bashers really get enthusiastic about it, Microsoft should be able to take all of their (free) input and release a bug free OS in a few months! :-D "Knock, knock." "Who's there?"
