Take a look at this IE7 Screenshot[^]. Can anyone reproduce this? This is happening consistently with IE8 beta 1 in both IE7 compat mode and IE8 mode, when I search on google. Also, you can't tell from the screenshot, but the "o" above the active page number at the bottom of the search results is raised by about 1.5 em. This is on Vista x64, latest updates. Firefox 3 works fine, so I dunno. I just want reassurance I'm not going crazy! - Mike

.. and that's why IE8 is not installed on my PC any more :)

xacc.ide - now with TabsToSpaces support
      IronScheme - 1.0 alpha 4a out now (29 May 2008)

What's the verdict on IE 8 feature wise, i.e., ignoring the beta glitches?

Yes, I noticed that IE8 and Google (try it with Google Maps - whoa!) do not play nice together. I went back to IE7 and all is good with the cyberworld again. That was with Vista Business 32 and, as with you, FireFlox 3 was fine.

I saw that many times with IE8 and used to switch back to IE7 compatible mode. That worked for a brief time until even IE7 mode started doing what you're seeing. Uninstalling IE8 cleared it up, though.

Still painfully slow. To be fair, it's noticeably faster than IE7, but slow in one area i cannot abide: opening a new tab. Somehow, i've gotten in the habit of opening just about everything in new tabs, and certain operations - looking up a word in an online dictionary, for instance - are now so ingrained that a severe delay in any part of the process (opening the tab, switching to the tab, putting focus on the address or search field...) results in extreme annoyance. When i hit Ctrl+T, I expect the tab to be open and the program accepting input by the time my left pinky finger leaves the Ctrl key, and - at least on my testing VM - IE8 just ain't cutting it. Other than that... Much needed improvements to the renderer, that's nice. Still lacking any signs of preliminary support for ECMAScript 4.0, that blows.

Yeah, that's an irritant in IE.

Well, I hope you brave guys are reporting these findings to Microsoft.

Now that is some advanced typing. I have yet to ever hit ctrl with anything but my right index finger. :suss:

Elusive problem with IIS7 static content.

Right index finger? How do you manage combos without using both hands? Are you, uh, Mr. Fantastic? :suss:
