Thunder Storms

Who enjoys a good thunder storm. One has just started here and its pretty mental luckily I'm sat in work in the dry. Wish I had my camera though so I could try and get some photo's :)

I used to do storm photography, it is a bit risky at times. :) enjoy!

On the morning after a rather loud thunderstorm during the night, I have been known to say "What thunderstorm?" to my mother when she asked me about it... I guess I'll never quite get the same feeling about them as you do!

Absolutely brilliant, great to watch and listen to. The sound of rain on the roof and distant thunder at night is very soothing.

However stupid it might sound, I'm envying you for your storms. In Sweden it's only getting grey, wet, windy and cold X|

Storm's are cool but when the thunder strikes my wife goes crazy and tries to hide under the bed

There are some exceptions: one night, about a month ago I was awaked up from a thunder storm and I went barely sleeping to the living room to close the window. In the very moment I touched the window frame a lightning hit the fire-escape some four foot from my face. I instantly loosed my sleep and become blind and deaf during a 10 seconds. So I also like thunder storms, but a close encounter with a lightning is a little too much.
The narrow specialist in the broad sense of the word is a complete idiot in the narrow sense of the word.

last night there were 4 huge thunder heads growing. No anvils, those are the truly powerful ones. But all 4 were being lit up by lightning all throughout the thunderhead about once every 10 seconds. About twice a minute a strike hit the ground. I almost pulled out the camera, even though lightning struck work only a few buildings down earlier in the day. That was a gentle reminder not to fall back on old habits I think.... ;) Now I do cave and landscape photography, generally caves don't try any sneek attacks on your person. ;)

Nah. I enjoy that as well. Although, I am pretty alone in that.. most people look at me like I have two heads when I tell them I enjoy a good rain. The obsession with sun-worship really makes no sense to me. In the summer, people whine and complain about it being too hot. In the winter or the fall, they "wish it were warm." I do! I miss the North East thunderstorms. I moved to Seattle 10 years ago and I think I hear thunder and see a lightning strike only once a year. Strange to me, I always wait for another strike but nothing ever happens.

About the times I spend in Oklahoma. The have massive, earth shaking T-Storms in the Spring. It really is quite enjoyable so long as you are not on the wrong end of a Tornado.

I have. I gripe about the sun all summer long and then make fun of all my cow-orkers for wearing coats in the winter. 30F is a nice day. 20 is brisk. 0 is invigorating. -10 with a 30 degree windchill, is a matter of principle. Except when I've carried my emergency coat in/out on my arm to wash it none of the receptionists where I work have ever seen my coat.

Shit happens sometimes. Was it 2 or 3 years ago when much of west Sweden was (literally) blown into smithereens?

True, but storms here are just nasty and grey. Never beautiful like the few thunderstorms I've encountered in the US. :((

Oh man. Man after my own heart. I love being freezing. It helps that I have a very active metabolism that keeps me warm even when everone else is shivering.. But, that's not why I love the rain. I love the rain because when it is grey and rainy, everything seems more... alive. Sounds are sharper, colors more vivid, and the scientific reason is that the intensity of the reflected light is higher relative to the ambient light (and the higher humidity dulls traveling sounds). Still, it brings me a sense of peace. I am happiest when it is perpetually grey.

I love thunderstorms. Especially the part when I get home from a 10 hour day at work, kick off my shoes, open a beer, and the phone rings. It's my boss asking if I would be available to patrol the power lines in the dark on a stormy night with nothing but a flashlight, to look for downed lines, blown fuses, or busted jumpers. On mud roads, two feet deep with reddish slime that wants to suck my truck under if I dare to stop for two seconds, and visibility 6" past the hood of my vehicle. Of course, I only have a quarter tank of fuel, and since the power is out I can't buy more - the pumps don't work. Of course I love them - I need the overtime pay, and I don't have any problem working 22 hours straight through. :-D
