Where are all the women?

Every time I logon, I never see female names associated with posts? Do you fellas just alienate females? Lilian ;P
A thread started by a woman and replies by three different women. Surely this is a CP first?

Call us trailblazers. Good Lord, how long did that take? Our technical lead is female. Half the development staff on my project is female. Actually, where I work is pretty mixed. We're balanced genderwise and have good minority representation.

There are a lot of women in my company, it's just that they are all in administrative postions (reception, payroll, etc.). In fact, there isn't a single female manager where I work.

I guess it's a different situation for me. Where I live and work, the majority of the citizens are engineers. I would think Silicone Valley, Seattle, and the DC area are more heterogeneous. I can count the amount of single women on one hand. Sorry, Norm...

I wish all my software was in C++, but company policy pushes me towards Labview :(( Elaine :rose: Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?
LabView? Ugh - you have my sympathy Elaine! What do you do at your place? Oddly enough NI tried to poach me once (I worked for a competitor/customer - it's complex) but when they asked I was happy where I was...I also didn't fancy working on their stuff (I was working on C++ by then) and really didn't fancy commuting to Newbury (their UK HQ) - the traffic's just awful!

The place I work for manufacture other peoples products (top end IT gear mostly) and I am involved in test development. Unfortunately, upper management at our HQ were impressed by the pretty pictures with Labview so that has become the preferred platform. However, I am slowly making changes here.... (evil cackle) I hope to get the go ahead for a reasonable sized VC++ prject in the next month which will people from a lot of Labview. Elaine (fluffy tigress emoticon) Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

I'm here. Yes, new women are frequently attacked and driven off. They are accused of being males in disguise. If you survive the initiation they will be nice to you. Cathy Life's uncertain, have dessert first!
Lucy, I like your quote. Provided its chocolate dessert of course  Elaine (fluffy tigress emoticon) Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

When I went on a visit to IBM SSD in San Jose a couple of years ago there quie a few women engineers. The only thing I did note was that about half the technical staff were immigrants (i.e. first generation US citizens). First time I had worked with anyone from south America.
