Strangely, this line of thought seems familiar. The Lounge, perhaps? So, I went away to my parents for a few hours. I came back to the same .... dog still barking. :sigh:

I have this neighbor with a wolf hound that's exactly as you've described. Only this four-legged bastard decides to start barking at throat murdering volumes from about 22:30 and continues to bark incessantly until sunup. I have absolutely no idea why. The sad part this is a stupid dog. I've noticed that sometimes it'll bark in one direction and then shuts up; but if barks another, there's an echo that obviously is the worst possible insult in barktongue so this macho dog has to bark back in a crazied frenzy and so on goes the cycle. They got some sort of restraint for the dog, but occasionally the four-legged bastard tries to live up the past.

That happened around here about two months ago. Some guy had a loud party, the sheriff came out three times, and each time he showed the officer that he had a permit for the party, and essentially the whole neighborhood suffered since the officers couldn't do anything.

We have a noise ordinance here from 10pm to 8am. So, essentially an annoying barking dog or a loud party would have to be stopped, but you know that goes.

We have the same kind of noise ordinance here, but it is unfortunately seldom enforced. By the time the sheriff gets into the neighborhood, the noise usually will have stopped.

The sheriff usually takes an hour or two when responding to a call. Back to the load party, I was like the fourth or fifth person to call, and the dispatcher told me they already knew about it and couldn't do anything since the guy had filed for the permit with the building and safety, their hands were tied.

The *critical* mistake that guy made was not inviting the neighbors in the first place. :)

Yep. I think it was some guy's retirement party, and inviting the neighbors would have been cool, or at least warn the fellow neighbors that he was going to have a big party. The kids that used to live next door didn't warn anyone of their loud wedding reception, the band was awful, myself and another neighbor called the sheriff and they took care of that one. I think they even busted some very underage drinkers on that call...

I gotta agree here. If the host went to the trouble of getting a noise permit, he clearly was aware he was doing something that others would find objectionable. Not following through by letting you know was really lame. He should've done that before visiting the man for the paperwork in the first place. :|

I had a neighbor with with a yappy dog. Kept me awake at all hours. I complained to Animal Control. I also printed a flyer with the address of the idiot & the phone# of Animal Control. Stuffed 'em into the mailboxes of anyone within earshot of that irritating hound. After suddenly getting numerous complaints, AC contacted the homeowner. Apparently it was a rental, and the renters were not permitted pets. Seems the owner of the house was greatly displeased to learn of this problem. So the dog owner moved. Problem solved. Heh. :-D -- Ian

Oh we all have so much anger in us, don't we? Why not wait until the dog is quite, then pop over to the neighbour, smile on face, and ask politely about the welfare of their dog? Maybe they aren't aware of its barking when they are out? If you have no luck, go to the RSPCA (dog pound, whatever) and get a dog the exact opposite of theirs (e.g. they have a Rottie, get a miniature poodle) ad, when they are out, swap dogs (and collars) and take theirs to the pound. A lot of effort, but GREAT fun!

My neighbours on both sides have each got a new pup in the last month or two - after about three weeks of all night yelping from one side, the yelping has now transferred to the other side! We have a tradition in our family of wrapping up an old mechanical (wind up) clock in blanket and putting this in the basket with a new pup - the muffled ticking is supposed to remind it of its mother's heartbeat, keeping it calm. It does actually seem to work (if you remember to wind the clock each night, and don't set the alarm!)

There are two things you need to solve this problem: 1. A shotgun 2. Some bullets These are for the owners. Then, as Paul said, call animal control for the dog :) Regards, --Perspx

Ahem. Having a shotgun and some bullets doesn't get you anywhere. A pistol and some bullets, a rifle and some bullets, or a shotgun and some shells, there's you've got the tools for some problem resolution of a ballistic kind.

I have a Beagle puppy next door that barks continuously while outside tied up. It does break for eating and napping or gnawing on its food dish, but for the most part it barks. From about 8:15 AM until around 4PM when the owners took it inside before they left for dinner or whatever. I went and untangled him from the playset one time and played with him for a few mintues. It's hyper, naturally, but a relatively good dog. I feel bad for him that he ended out in a house with idiots.

That's sad. Beagles, as a breed, are known for being 'high companionship' animals. If they don't get the amount of interaction they need, they try to attract attention, by barking for example. That's why they're good with kids; they like to be played with.
