I'm very impressed. He must be exceptionally good. Best of luck.

He's got a lot of work ahead... he can't stay state bound, he's got to start scoring regional competitions, but he knows that too. I'll back him no matter the cost. :) I know his father won't.

If you really[^] love him... you'll send him to the Olympics. Link is kid sister safe, if your kid sister has already had THAT conversation with your parents. :-O
Imagine that you are hired to build a bridge over a river which gets slightly wider every day; sometimes it shrinks but nobody can predict when. Your client provides no concrete or steel, only timber and cut stone (but they won't tell you what kind). The coefficient of gravity changes randomly from hour to hour, as does the viscosity of air. Your only tools are a hacksaw, a chainsaw, a rubber mallet, and a length of rope. Welcome to my world. -Me explaining my job to an engineer

My step son set his goal high... This friday I am buying a competition pommel horse (used) and moving the rings from strength building to competion width. As long as he is serious I will get anything he needs. [he's a competition gymnast: 1st in state 4th level, 4th in state 5th level, 12th in state 6th level (but 4th on pommel horse and parallel bars) -- and yes, you can count the number of olympic gymnasts from NM on one hand, he still wants to be one of them]

Is it possible to make a career out of gymnastics? If you win the gold I know you get your 15 minutes of fame and probably pick up a few bucks. But once that is over are your career options limited to circus performer or starting over in a new field? Past the Olympics where do you take that?

Don't worry, he has no intention of making this a career, per se. He does want to become a gymnastics trainer as a part-time employment with an eye for a larger job for career. Currently the latter is programming... :-O He sees what I do and thinks it is just amazingly cool. I try not to let it go to my head, he is already in gymnastics, he may change his mind about programming as he learns other career choices too. No every gymnast has another career choice in background to fall back on as soon as they are done, 15 minutes of fame or not.
