I saw my shadow in the shower yesterday. I am a fat boy. I always thought that having breasts would be way cooler than what it seems to be. They wobble when I run :( I am so going to stop eating crap and start using my exercise equipment. As I've said in the past.....

So what are other people doing to get healthier? I noticed in Alabama (I think.) that if you are clinically obese you have to pay 50% of your insurance premium and are eligible for fines if you don't change your ways and start losing weight. So you can do it by force or on your own but if you are doing it then what exactly have you done. John Simmons dropped soda pop and his weight came down like a crashing plane. I'm not so lucky. I have to sweat it off or I don't get any change. The rest of you??? Shog you are banned from this thread. After several months of getting my ankle to heal after a bad sprain that did ligament damage, I try to run on the treadmill three times a week, followed by some free weights and yoga. I actually don't like a lot of sweet stuff. I like a Violet Crumble or a couple of Tim Tams now and then but I prefer salty snaks like Cheese-Its or sunflower seeds. My big failing is my alcohol consumption. I used to be a huge pasta eater. I still prefer pasta but have learned to love the whole wheat variety which fills you up faster. I've been making a lot of Chinese food myself lately but with less salt than the restaurants. I also used to be a HUGE pop drinker. Over the last couple of years I have decreased that and usually drink less than one 20 ounce bottle of Diet Coke per day. The weekends are usually higher though. I always carry a water bottle with me because one of my meds gives me terrible dry mouth. I think the best approach is start with small changes--like the whole wheat pasta. Doesn't taste the greatest at first, but after awhile you prefer it and wish restaurants offered it. I've heard several people say this. Try eating sandwiches without cheese or reduce shredded cheese in your dishes. If you reduce the amount in increments, you aren't screaming "I WANT CHEESE!" I am one of those that has to workout to keep a descent figure. I hate working out with the exception of yoga so I watch TV (usually Law and Order reruns) while I do it to distract me.

I lost 30 lbs simply by having 1/3 of my colon removed. I've also added beer to my daily scotch for the additional vitamin B, and of course, the extra whole grain it adds to my diet. I've stopped living on pepperoni pizza, ordering instead a pepperoni and jalapeno combination to ensure I get enough vegetables. And, to make sure I lost enough weight to notice, I shaved off my beard and mustache; the NCIC already had that picture on file anyway. Next I'm thinking of taking up chain smoking to get more iron.

Excerising regularly and eating (mostly) organic meals 2 times a day, brunch and dinner. Of course I balance it out all the health benefits of that with over consumption of beer :-) Isn't caffeine supposed to boost your metabolism, which would help lose weight?

Some pain killers like Excedrin use caffeine as a way to distribute the drug faster because of the cell receptors. The basic idea is that if you are "up" your hypothalmus produces less ghrelin, which makes you hungry. I am on an amphetimine due to my narcolepsy. When I am "tweaking" I get full after a few bites of food. Some people abuse the drug to lose weight.

30 minutes of exercise a day is all most people need to keep their weight under control. If your fat: - stop using elevators - stop using cars/buses for traveling short distances - join a sports team on Saturdays Don't go all crazy with dieting... be mindful of what your eating but don't stop eating junk food, or you'll just end up back where you started. Consistent exercise is the key.

I agree but most people have to start slowly. Some people just hate exercise; I personally have never understood the joys of running several miles. Find what you enjoy doing and build upon that. As for food, I have found that people who try to reduce the bad stuff over time are more likely to lose weight long term. I used to be a HUGE cheese fan. I started to reduce the amount of cheese I put on stuff. Now several dishes I used to put on cheese, I don't anymore. Small steps to big rewards.

Okay, thanks for the info. Kind of like how people abuse thyroid medication to reduce their weight. You should change your CP name to "Tweak" like the South Park character, just for fun (not that there's anything wrong with your current name). :-D

Proper Diet, 90 minutes on the treadmill 5 nights a week, active lifestyle, and weight lifting. When I tell people about the time I spend on the treadmill many are shocked and state, wow that's so much. But when you look at it from a biological perspective, humans are meant to be active all day long. Most of us sit in front of a computer or a desk all day and then go home and sit in front of an idiot box. 7.5 hours of vigorous exercise is not much. The average American watches 30 hours of TV per week. In comparison, I still watch much more T.V. than I do exercise. Although I do splurge, last Sunday I ate a 3.5 pound lobster, that was nice.

I'm skinny and have never had weight problems, thankfully. But I did stop caffeine about 3 years ago more or less (that is, I still drink some pop on special occassions, but otherwise a juice/water guy.)

LOL! I'm doing the opposite. I'm trying to gain weight. Too thin I'm now. :) But for the last 4 years, it has been a quest in vain. And I've accepted my current dynamics as they are.

The great part is there is no scientific evidence that any of these things cause increased health problems. Ironically, they do cause increase health expenditures because the overweight and "clinically obese" live the longest. (The only reliable indicator of actual heart disease is high blood pressure. High cholesterol indicates nothing. Interestingly, there is evidence that drastically lowering your cholesterol increases heart attacks.)

There's zero evidence Caffeine is bad for you and growing evidence it prevents certain types of cancers. (I've no ax to grind here; I don't drink anything with caffeine for the simple reason that I don't like how those drinks taste.)

There's no evidence losing weight increases your health. Plenty of evidence that overweight people live longer (it's called the obesity paradox.) (Again, no ax to grind, if anything I'm slightly below normal weight for my height and age. People in my family live very long, regardless of weight. I had a great-grandfather live to 105 and multiple relatives past 95. Ironically, I also come from a long line of people whose livers produce massive amounts of cholesterol.)

Man, you're a funny person. You had to find it from your shadow that you are fat? You never look into the mirror? :-D Trust me, you will fold all your exercising equipments and put it back in a corner in four days flat. The best way to beat this would be to join a sports club , play something like tennis, badminton, basketball, etc., with regular and active members. You'll lose weight and get back on shape for sure. An hour a day must be enough for this. I remember it from an earlier post of you that you do swim occasionally. Actually, swimming is another pretty good way to lose weight too, if that interests you. :)

Exercise, exercise, exercise. I'm an extremely keen cyclist, so it's not what I consider a chore, but the one thing I notice is that on days when I don't get a ride in at some point I am tired by mid afternoon and I'm less productive in general. Admittedly its easier because of my location (Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland), for example, in ten minutes I can be riding along Loch Ness (ok well not along - but along side ) As I work from home my commute is usually from the bedroom to the office via the kitchen and the bathroom and as we all know the life of a coder is pretty static. Well anyway, as I say, exercise is my number one. I still probably drink too much coffee, although I have told the wife to stop bringing buckets of the stuff up to me :) Cheers
The only thing unpredictable about me is just how predictable I'm going to be.

Well, I'm not quitting caffeine as I am not actually addicted to it and I really do enjoy a cup or two of coffee in the morning. As far as fitness goes, I'm pretty damn fit since beginning muay thai and supplementing that with very intense cross training. For my diet, I just watch what I eat and try to pay attention to how I feel afterwards.

Yeah, I'm not addicted either! I stop four or five times a day. ;P Try going without for a couple days, and then tell us you didn't get a headache X| .

I'm on twice weekly shots until my B-12 levels are high enough to warrant taking shots once a week. Those buggers BURN! :mad: My B-12 levels was 12 (I have no recollection of the scale that was in use) when it should be 1000. Thankfully, only 1 more week of twice weekly shots.
