Hi Just recently I am doing some gym and its giving good results. My coach has adviced me to get Creatine so that I can have bulk of muscles? :) Does anyone knows from IT scene if this has any adverse side effects. What do you think of it? Will it harm my available intellectual capabilities etc? give me some comments and feedback have a happy weekend :-O vijay

Do some research on the net. The net will be full of articles about the advantages and disadvantages of Creatine.

You MUST workout when you're using this stuff otherwise you'll just fat up. :) But when it comes to things like whey protein powder, don't buy into that crap, natural protein foods such as tuna are just as beneficial, and much much cheaper.

Creatine helps you retain water which helps you support your muscles when you lift allowing you to lift more than you could otherwise. I was reading in Men's Health a few months ago on a study about caffeine before a workout and it offers substantially more benefits regarding amount lifted. However, proper lifting technique and a solid workout plan will get you the best results.

I did that years ago but after not working out for 5 years I am slowly loosing everything. Maybe I will try get back to the gym. Its really hard when weights that you used to do 20 reps you struggle to do 5.

Creatine works great as an adjunct to a regular workout. It does assist with energy levels while exercising, and it will add bulk (not strength) in the form of larger muscles. On the other hand, much of the bulk added is due to water retained in the muscle cells. It also increases testosterone levels ( or its precursors - I forget) which might not be a good thing for anyone with prostate problems. I'd go ahead and use it, but ask your doctor's opinion next time you have a physical.

Look at the guys who spend too much time in the gym. Do they look like people who have limited intellectual capacity? [snicker...] Then picture yourself with a buff body and an IQ somewhere between a squirrel and a poodle. Go easy on the supplements, and read a book between workouts and you should be able to retain some basic intelligence. After all, with limited resources available, the body has to decide what kind of cells to build - muscle, or brain cells. You have to exercise both kinds if you want to keep both.

Taking Creatine increases the amount of creatine monophosphate in your muscles. This substance is used to generate short bursts of muscle contraction as would be found in weight lifting. It also forces muscle to store *slightly* more water. Effectively what this means is that you can manage an extra couple of repetitions than you normally would be able to which will help with building muscle. It has also been shown to have some cognitive benefits. Taking it won't make you fat and won't magically bulk you up - it'll just give you a little more more in the tank when you'd normally be finished. About 1 in 7 people don't gain any benefit from creatine but some suggest that is mostly people who have a diet high in creatine already (red meat in particular). I find it works for me but YMMV. HTH
