Of course. But it wasn't clear that that was the one and only issue that mattered to him. I frankly don't give a damn what the next president's position on abortion is. Given all the real problems we need to confront, that issue pales to insignificance. I'm VERY tired of electing Presidents just because of this one issue. It won't make one whit of difference, since the veto and filibuster proof congress will not be allowing any pro-life supremes for some time to come. That battle was lost in 2006, probably forever. For McCain and the GOP to continue focusing exclusively on that one issue is stupid and disqualifies them from leading.

I don't see that it is signals that this is the only issue that matters to him. He routinely shows his interest in war with IraqIran, war with Korea, war with China and war with Russia.

I don't think McCain made the right choice either, but it has nothing to do with experience.

So, what does it have to do with (actually I largely agree, - there might be other inexperienced choices that would have been brilliant)? To me the significant issue is that it displays poor judgment or poor advice not rejected (same as poor judgment). It also suggests some discouraging things about the lengths McCain is willing to go to t appease his supposed "base".

I am not sure it was about appeasing the base. I wouldn't have chosen her, but neither does it make me mad enough to stay home. I think he was trying to "play safe" by picking someone who will piss off the least.

Yeah.. Either could be smart or desperate move. One thing for sure. McCain just lost the credibility for the 'experience' (given no experience for Palin) question that he posed for Obama.

Anybody that has honestly followed McCain's political path knows he had no creditability going into this election.

That's really the whole point isn't it? When it comes to experience, the Democrat's trump card is their VP candidate.

I read his choice as being mindful of the "change" plank Obama has been trying to present. She's young and hot, and barring any undisclosed life threatening illness, she'll definitely out-live McCain.

Hear hear! Some needs to tell the Republican party that the twentieth century wants its issues back. Anyone who votes for or against a candidate based on their position on abortion probably wears polyester leisure suits.

My theory is that most Republicans with any brains - and there are plenty of them - have written off this election. (There's nothing that says that Romney wasn't offered the VP job before Palin, you know.) They're satisfied to wait until 2012 when they can be anti-Washington and will have four years of tax-and-spend to run against.

Clearly not. Just because you wish it were so does not make it so.

Since that's not the case, I must ask - do you think that being a war hero disqualifies him from the Presidency?
