Google's Chrome and a new resident process, "GoogleUpdate.exe"

Has anyone else installed Chrome and found out that, all of the sudden, there is a new process running (even when Chrome is not running), called "GoogleUpdate(r?).exe"? Doing who knows what, sending them who knows what information about us... Not to mention that, in the license of instalation, we have to agree that all content submited through Chrome gives Google the right to .. basically have the rights to exploit that content as they like (or did i misunderstood it?). I am really, really, really starting to not like Chrome/Google at all. If i wasn't a web developer, i wouldn't have even passed through the "EULA" and installed it. Google is starting to sound more Microsoft than ever...
Windows is just as secure as Linux (when shielded with a Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and disconnected from the Internet). Windows has even better performance than Linux (when running without Firewall, Anti-Virus and Anti-Spywayre).

Hmmm... Is that what they said. [cynical] Let us presume that they actually meant it, and figured nobody ever read the EULA, then if they were caught they went "Oh well it was worth a try". Maybe it is the direction they want to go as part of the plan for world domination, and it will be creeping in peicemeal over the next few years [/cynical]

Google updater just keeps your binaries updated....u can consider it like the live update mechanism. It looks much better than microsoft live update and doesn't consume bandwidth when you need it. :-D :-D As far as your concern about sending info, chrome will do that...not the updater.

Then don't use it, don't install it and/or completely remove it from your computer. Try that with IE... :rolleyes:

Since installing Chrome already redirects all your network traffic through Google's servers (to make sure you're having a plesant experience), it is a simple matter for them to inject update information into the unused portions of the various packets heading your way. Chrome then intercepts these packets and assembles the update file on your machine.

That's not cynical, that's paranoid. Most users skip the EULA, granted. I doubt that any sane person would try to fool some millions (?) of users. Unless that person is the president of the United States, of course :)
