Recruiter fees

A friend has been contacted by a recruiter for an engineering position. Nice enough salary and an interesting job, he teels me. The problem is that he was told that hiring company pays nothing to the recruiters and that the recruiter's fee was 10% of his paycheck. He asked me if this is normal or too much or what. My first thought was... 10% of the first paycheck? of every paycheck? He said he didn't know but would ask. Indeed, it would make a huge, huge difference. But the truth is that I don't have experience on this so I'm putting the question to you gys. Anyone can give me any information to pass along? He is in Japan and the recruiters are a Japanese company and the job is at a Japanese company (he isn't Japanese), in case it matters.

Ive never heard of the employee paying recruiter fees, its always the employer. However ive never even visited japan let alone worked there...things could well work very differently (eg, used knickers from vending machines. i sh1t you not! :omg: ) Fixed typo, well done MM.

They do help people find jobs, but they have the "Introduction Fee". It is a standard business practise. A Few years ago I had a bankmanager friend of mine indicate that he had a client who wanted to sell some land. My company is a land developer, so I did the "Introductions", we shared the 1% fee. Not bad, I got £11,000 out of that! (Had to pay £4000 in tax :mad:). But still had a good whack of cash to spend wrecklessly!

No, it should not be paid by you. You have a salary, the company pays you that, on the agreed amount. The company pays the recruiter the fee.

You have to know the right People to Introduce! But it is middleman tax really, I didn't mind when I got my cut though. :)

I number of my grad friends went into Recruitment Consultancy, they tell me it's a pretty cut-throat competitive business.

You have to know the right People to Introduce! But it is middleman tax really, I didn't mind when I got my cut though. :)

It is free here. you can find job listed in a free paper that is published weekly it is called "Alwaseet" in english means like "middleman"

You can do that here too, the job of the consultants is to track down people who look like the person the company wants, tries to arrange an interview etc. then gets his comission if the guys gets hired.

"Alwaseet" the paper i was talking about they don't take comission even if the person gets hired they anly ask you to tell the company that you raed their post in their paperand that is it no money taken by teh paper

Are yours paid for by the Government? We have "Job Centers" that are the same, free advertising no fees etc, but they are large monolithic things run by the government and aimed more at the lower end of the job market. Technical or skilled positions tend to be specialist recruitment company based.

He meant to type knickers, as in underpants. Japan has vending machines where you can buy underwear that has supposably been worn by young, good looking, sexually active women, who for reasons known only to themselves decide to not wash and reuse but sell to some company. Sounds great doesn't it.
